Chapter Thirteen - The Shift -

1095 Words
Loclyn POV As I headed towards my car, I had this nagging feeling of unease. Not just because it was becoming harder and harder to breathe or because I was practically stumbling along the road, which came out of no where. I felt like I needed to turn around and go back. I kept trying to make it to my car, because Daydra told me to leave and even though I really didn't want to I wasn't about to be, that crazy stalker guy who didn't listen when told no. No matter how hard I tried to get to my car, inly a few meters away I couldn't. My footing was becoming more and more unstable with each step. No, I shook my head, she made it clear I had to leave. I don't think this has to do with her telling me to keave and me not wanting. I thought I heard her calling me but my head was pounding with pain, I was unsteady on my feet, my breathing harsh and it was hard to intake the air I needed, so I wasn't sure , if it was her and not just my imagination. Not knowing what to do or what was going on I felt a surge of electricity run through my veins, anger seethed through my body, consuming me. What was happening. It's at that moment I heard her. "LOCLYN HEEELLPP MMEEE PLEASE" is what I heard her scream. I tried to turn around and go back to where I just left her standing on her porch. I didn't get far before I hit the ground, my body trembling, sweating, hot and cold flushes taking over my mind and body. On the last flush, I felt hot, not just hot, pure heat like a furnace, the need for air greater than before. I fell to the ground, on my hands and knees I tried crawling to my car that was a few inches away now, hoping I could get in it and to her quicker than I was. I don't think I'd get to far in the car but at least I would try to reach her in time. At this rate she might be dead before I can get to her. I thought, at the scream of help I know I heard from her that's all that I could think she is going to be killed. Suddenly it happened. I figured out what was happening, my mates in trouble and I can feel the urgency in her scream for help. It's help her or she dies. With no doubt left in my mind, it's my wolf coming out and in what felt like hours but was only minutes my bones cracked and shattered. My skin ripped and peeled off my body. It was sheer and utter torture. I felt like I was going to die. My fingers started bending, twisting, extending, breaking and changing shape, then these long claws took over where my hands used to be. This was agony, death was looking better and better with every minute that passed. Usually, transformations don't happen until your 18th birthday and under the full moon at the hot springs of the Crystal Cove Pack. Now I understand why that is. The springs help to ease you into the process and it's supposed to suppress the pain significantly. The hot springs are also ancient and connect to a underwater cave that has all these different crystals, that were blessed by the Goddess and the different supernatural Elders in this world, to allow a safe shift and to help keep your mind clear and not end up stupified by the enormous amount if pain and engery it took. The mental strain it had was just as bad, if not worse. Some other wolves I have see shift, back at my old pack didn't just go stupid for a while, they lost their minds completely. One didn't shift back to human, he went feral and had to be hunted down before he caused any more sorrow and death, the other, he shifted back to human almost instantly but is now brain dead. With these thoughts a fear washed over me, like the water from a water fall cascading down the mountain face. What if that happens to me.? What if I never change bac.... My thoughts were cut off by the sudden onslaught of pain again, when another bone started snapping, bending, twisting and taking it's place inside my body. "AAARRRRR" I scream out in pain. As the last bone that cracked and set, I shook my fur like none of the pain just happen. I felt strange, when I shook again the last shiver making sure I had shifted completely, I didn't feel fluffy fur shaking side to side. I looked at the ground and it didn't seem to like right. I looked to my feet, they were paws, but not the normal wolf paws, these were white and slanted just above where my ankel would normally be, a standing like position. Struggling to balance I took a deep breath and pulled myself up using my car to help me, I slowly pushed off my car to stand on my own, fully regaining my balance after stepping forward once or twice, it came to me like a second nature. It felt natural and I felt powerful. "What the actual f**k"! I said so loud I saw birds leave their nests and fly away. "I'm not a wolf, then what the f**k am I"!? I exclaimed. Looking at my hands and my feet. I saw thick white, short fur and long claw like nails. More like talons. My feet where the same colour and more claw like then paw like. I was slightly hunched over but taller than I've ever been. My stomach while it had hair on it wasn't completely covered, and I was pure white. I had abbs for days, not like I didn't before but this was kind of impressive. I wasn't sure what I was. I never paid attention in history, but that will change. For now, I need to go get Daydra the sudden thought sent dread racing through my mind. I feel like she is in trouble. Why did I just walk away. f*****g hell Loclyn, you heard his insults and abusive slurs. Why. How dumb can someone be. Ok, I didn't want to, not listen to her but this time I shouldn't have listened. Please be alive. "I'm coming princess, hold on, please" I said out loud.
