Chapter 5 Jake's POV, She started laughing much frantically, I have no intention to joke. “It’s been just a little over an hour, dumbo.” She cries tears with her laughter. It’s just frustrating, I'm such a joke here. “And it was barely a scratch, alright. You passed out seeing your own blood.” She laughs and laughs and laughs like a lunatic, almost falling off to the ground making me just so embarrassed. “I don’t—I don’t think we can have that due dinner anytime soon. You're gonna get an earful from Captain very soon. I'm pretty sure everyone in the precinct already heard about you. So, on this note get on your feet. Doctor said we can leave. I'll drop you home rest up well, you'll need it.” I'm already so embarrassed, last time this happened, I pledged to myself never to repeat this. I should’ve just popped the pill before I entered the house. I thought I'll be just fine. I didn’t know any danger. She helped me up and to the vehicle. I'm just thankful she isn’t saying anything anymore. I sat by her all the while she drove me home. “Emily?” I say before getting off. “Should I just resign? This is the only way to protect my pride.” “Your pride is way long gone honey.” “Come on Emily.” “I've been telling you the same for a month, you should give up this job.” “If I have done it, you would’ve been on my place, and god know maybe you would have to get a new tattoo.” She looks at me dumbfounded. f**k! What did I say to her? “So, you’ve seen them?” “Yeah!” there is no reason to hide it now. “I won't tell you the reason, just that my scars aren’t because I was brave like you. I got them because I was the stupidest person on this planet. I just don’t want you to get hurt. You are too pure for this job.” “I'll be kicked out this time anyway. Don’t worry about it.” I told her trying to hold her hand. She didn’t let me. “I'm sorry, for what I said. I didn’t mean to hurt you.” “They don’t hurt anymore, Jake. They are just a reminder to keep me tough. I guess you needs some scars to know what I mean.” “I guess so. Good night.” I got out of the car. “Jake—” I turned, “there’s news.” “What news?” “I got a call. Another woman found murdered in Back Wood’s alley, much like the case a month ago.” Another murder, so I guess I was right. “The news will break this time to the public. A viral youtuber posted it all over his social media.” “Did they find anything about who she is?” “No, nothing yet. the body is in despair. They are trying to control the situation, maybe we will soon find it. good night.” There is nothing good about this night anymore. Nothing good. I walked to have five missed calls from dad. Someone must be dying for her to call me like this. I must call her back before she presumes me missing, or worse, dead. “Mom?” I bet she must be sitting gawking at her phone. “Everything okay?” “Jake. What happened to your voice, son? I had a really bad feeling. You're fine, right.” “I'm fine mom. what will happen to me?” if she was here, looking at my face, she would just know I'm lying. I'm not really good at hiding my feelings. “How’s dad? Did he forgive me yet?” she fell silent. I know she is trying to find words that would hurt me the most. Dad had done that part enough already. “No. he is still angry that you left like that.” “I bet Jerry is making him proud?” “Don’t worry about him. he is just a little in shock, he wanted you two to take over his business. That’s all. He’ll come around. I'll talk to him.” her voice tells me that she is closes to being defeated already. “By the way I have a good news. Jerry and Stella got engaged.” “What really? This bastard. they’ve been together long enough to finally take this step.” ** Next morning, All night I had nightmares that I'm walking through the doors of the precinct and everyone is in line to laugh at me. make fun of me. but what I ended up seeing is a huge swarm of people in and people out and people crowd the entire precinct. I spotted Emily right on her desk, right before time. how typical of her. “What’s going on here, Emily?” I sat on her desk. “How’s your shoulder?” “Peachy.” I saw moving my shoulder. They pain is so much less from last night. “What’s all this?” “Our precinct got the charge of the killings going on around. Higher ups want this case on speed. They cases are connected they say.” “Theory?” “Serial killings.” “They find the connections between the cases? The woman has a close body structures and features.” “We know their identies?” “No. Their faces are almost—deconstructed. Had no finger prints. Almost to no blood in the body.” “Again?” “And one message.” “Message?” “More like a crypt. Some numbers. Something. I don’t quite get it. well, no one did actually.” “Wilson,” Coleman walked out from Captain’s office. “Captain wants to see you in.” f*****g s**t, my time to die had come. How can I forget for every mess a made, the consequence is the death of my employment I stood up from that sloppy desk feeling the tremor running down over my legs. “Time to die” I breathe. “Yeah, alright.” She let out a laugh, she has a lot of fun. I wouldn’t have pass out if it wasn’t for her and look at her, so ungrateful. “Try not to die today.” she bellowed. But I walk away heeding none to her.
