Chapter 1 The dark desolate alley, no stranger to multiple crimes over the years, was the center of attention again. A call came in claiming to have heard shouting coming from the alley well past the time when anyone with any kind of self-preservation wouldn’t be caught dead there. Buried amongst the greasy chicken bones and soggy half-eaten pizza lay the cold, lifeless body of what appeared to be a young woman in her early twenties. Down in the bottom of the drab olive green dumpster, rusted out by years of garbage bags bursting open and leaking, the bloody mutilated body leaned against the side, tossed away like some worn-out rag doll. How had she come to be here? Missing one shoe, the other the heel broken off, broken fingernails showed signs that she struggled to save herself. Across the alley, barely visible in the shadows cast by the single 60 watt light bulb above the back door of the building next door lay hidden among the debris what appeared to be the ball bat used to end the life of this unfortunate woman. But for the time of night, this crime would have gone unnoticed. During early evening until closing time for most bars any screams coming from the alley would have been drowned out by the yelling and screaming of college students out partying and enjoying life. The steady downpour had all but washed away any footprints the killer may have left behind. With it came the humidity causing steam to rise up from the oil slicked pavement. Matching the ambiance of those who slowly and methodically scoured every inch of the alley looking for any trace of evidence the killer may have left behind that wasn’t washed away by the rain. The alley with its dark shadows was home to all strays from malnourished mongrels to the vagrants passing through on their way to warmer climates. Within weeks the only thing left to show a crime has been committed there will be bits of the crime scene tape that hasn’t been ripped away by the teenagers as they race by on their skateboards without a clue how close they have passed by to death. **
