Chapter 50 Jake’s POV, “What the f**k is this?” she looks at me face, trying to act clueless. “You tell me.” her eyes scream innocence when they look at me. now I'm starting to doubt myself. “You knew this all along, didn’t you?” “No, the f**k. I didn’t know. Why would I know he was such a bastard?” she still thinks me a fool. “But you suspected Captain. You’ve seen him in the clip. You know he was involved too. you suspected his behaviour and you didn’t know about this. You want me to believe this?” I don’t yell, I scream, as much power as my lungs can handle. But she stayed so much calmer than me. “I knew he was sponsoring from Robby’s illegal brothel. I thought you could use it to blackmail him into giving back your job. That was what I planned. But it’s a good thing that you get this. This is way better than I suspected. We have proof, now we can blackmail him.” she says with a tinge of excitement like this is really something good. It ain't. “How is this good? This is bad. To know a mom is monetizing on her daughter’s death, even was responsible for her horrible death. There is nothing good, it’s all just sad.” “You're twisting it the wrong way. We have his weakness now. We can blackmail him to give you your job back. That’s what you want too.” huh! Is she even human. I can't believe this is something she would say, as a woman herself. She should be enraged. “No, we are using it to get him to jail.” I put my phone back. “You won't get your job back. There’s no guarantee that you will.” “I don’t care about that. I need him away from society first.” “Are you joking? You need this job remember, for Stella, for your brother, for me.” “I know, but he is a murderer and a r****t. He deserves punishment. Ari and Nick need their justice. This can give them that.” “No, they are dead, they don’t need justice. All they want is to be left alone in their afterlife, they must be over their pain by now. You use this evidence to blackmail him and then we can work together again and catch who killed Stella. That’s what you want. That’s the right thing.” “The right thing is for every criminal to be punished and be behind bars. That’s the right thing. If you can't help, then don’t, I'll do it myself.” “You'll just hurt yourself if you do this, and your family, your brother.” “Just because I'll get hurt, I can't stop doing the thing I think is right. Isn’t that the basics of being human? What happened to the righteous Emily?” “Stop.” She stood in front of the door, stopping me with wide arms, like she can stop me if I want to leave. I'm so much stronger than her. it try to move past, but she just puts her hands against my chest. “I've been hurt for doing what you are going to do.” My body tensed up with her words. It’s the first time she’s said anything about herself. She looks in my eyes and pulls up her sleeves. It’s the first time in seeing the extent of her tattoos. Her arms are full of tattoos. It’s not good for police to have that many tattoos. That must be why she hides it all the time. She pulls my hand and put it on the skin of her hand. “Can you feel it?” she says and I graze my fingers over her hand. Under my skin, her skin feels like the tattoos on her skin has come alive. I've seen a few scars but they are too much, they are like she’s harmed herself before “I've been beaten up. I wanted justice for my mother, but all I got was these scars.” She pulls her shirt over her head and turned her back at my face. they are full of faded scars, I bet they still pain her. I bet they still feels fresh in her head.
