Chapter 8 Jake's POV, “I know.” She patted on my shoulder. I might cry. I don’t want to. when emotions gets too overwhelming, I try to calm myself making myself aware of the surroundings but it detached me completely from the reality. “You'll do well. we’ll figure it out.” “Weren’t you the one telling me to quit?” “It’s a way for me to motivate you, to do better.” “Can't say it did work. But I just made a fool out of myself. I'll see you in a week then.” “Wait, let’s go. I'll treat you, remember, the bet.” “Emily, I'm not really in the mood. I think I should go back home for now.” “Don’t be silly, I bet you want some gossip about the murder cases. I've found out some details just to keep you entertained.” “Really?” I'm really weird, murder mysteries horrify me but at the same time, I feel like it can open a new world for me. after all, who doesn’t like a cup of coffee and an awesome case to share when they’re older. “Where are we going?” I chose a café, I don’t need anything more than caffeine. I never poured so much caffeine before Austin. I've always kept myself pure of this poison. Now, it’s the way I function. “Apparently, the murders aren’t a new thing in town.” She said. “I've looked through the past crimes, for many years people have been dying on that street. Girls, disappearing. Not one reports them missing been lodged. Usually the murders are assault, theft or drug overdose. Only this time the cases are different. more gruesome, more severe, more staged.” “Why now?” “Makenzie.” “Makenzie?” “The youtuber. He makes this viral video. Although the murders aren’t new, there is definitely some new distinctive things that separates them from before. like this, the tattoo.” She showed a picture she had on her phone. “Tattoo? When did you get that picture.” Before I could ask anymore, my phone started to buzz. “Jerry?” the name flashed on the screen. Excuse me, Emily.” I walked out for a second to answer the phone, the rush inside wouldn’t let me talk. “Hello… what? I'll be home.” Jerry said he’s here. what? Why is he here all of a sudden. He shared no such plan prior. Whatever, I need to go open the door to let him in. I walked right back in. she was sipping on her cup of coffee. “My brother is here at my house, I need to go.” “Okay, rest for a while. Then call me, we’ll figure something out.” I think she will hate me if she knew she’ll be fired because of me. she’s the only person who looked me as I am, and I will lose it all in a moment. I won't risk it. “I will. Thanks for the coffee.” I chugged down the iced coffee before leaving to get in my car. House is near my work, so it didn’t even take full ten minutes and I’m parking my car in the residence parking area. Get out and took the elevator for the fifth floor. I was only expecting Jerry, but Stella hugged me before I could even notice her. “Stella?” I don’t remember her being so gorgeous and almost like a lady, not the girl I used to hang out with in high school. I quickly open the door and let them in. “What’s going on?” “We were on our way to the hotel, we thought we should meet you first.” “Drinks?” I ask. “Yeah.” I bought them beer before joining the couch. “Stella and I are going to setup an outlet here.” and we need it before we get married. I completely let it out of my mind. “Mom told me two got engaged.” I stood handing them a hug. “Congratulations.” I tell Jerry. “Stella, so you're finally getting married.” “I guess there’s no out from here.” She laughed showing me the ring that adored her fingers. I can tell the happiness of her soul. “We should celebrate.”
