Ch. 4 Time Flies By

963 Words
Violet's POV My father dismissed me and I went back to my room. I had a room on the Alpha floor, and yes it was because it would look bad if I was on a different floor. The room was a smaller room. I think it was a room for a previous Luna's personal Omega. I hid my money just in case. Cherri had never stolen from me, but that's just because she always got what she wanted. Father was giving her extra money, so there was no need for her to steal the remaining $250. I mentally calculated what I needed. I needed a dress, shoes, and maybe a nice necklace. I could do my own hair and I decided not to wear makeup. It's not like I knew how to put it on, anyway. I linked one of the guards to ask him to take me to the store. Unlike most of the pack, he didn't view me as having killed my mother. He always called it the "unfortunate event." Oak and Cherri had cars, but I had to rely on Mike, the guard, to occasionally take me places. I didn't go to many places. Mike agreed and I let the head Omega know that I wouldn't be there to help with dinner tonight. "Go ahead and take off. These dishes will just be here when you get back," she said. Of course she wouldn't ask one of the Omegas to do that job just for one night. I rolled my eyes and went down the stairs. Mike was already waiting for me. He gave me a look. "What's wrong?" I asked. "The Alpha was not thrilled I was taking you shopping," he said. I frowned. "I need a dress for the king's ball," I explained. "Well, I don't think that's a good enough excuse. You might want to clear it with him." I sighed and walked back up the five flights of stairs to his office. I hesitantly knocked on the door. I opened it when I heard his brusque, "Enter." "Excuse me, Father, but I was wondering if Mike could take me to town to get my dress for the ball," I meekly asked. He sighed loudly and gave me a long stare. "And why do you need to take one of my best warriors for this trip?" "I don't have a car, Father." "That does seem to be a problem of your own making." He stared at me again. "Have you approved your leave with the head cook?" "Yes, Father, I did." "Then, be back by 10." I looked at the clock behind him. It was already 7. I was surprised he was giving me so much time! I guess the king's invitation put him in a good mood. I nodded my head and turned to leave. "And, Violet, don't disgrace me while you're out there." "Yes, Sir," I replied, softly. I quietly walked out of the office. When the door closed, I leaned back on it and sighed. Talking with him was always rough. Then, I walked back down the stairs and saw Mike. "Everything cleared?" he asked. "Be back by 10," I replied. "He's in a good mood!" "Let's not tempt fate." I rushed past him. He caught up to me and led me to his car. Then we drove out of the pack grounds and to the mall. After parking, I quickly walked to the stores and found one that sold fancy dresses. I recognized it's name. Cherri bought all her dresses from this store. With luck, I might find one that was less that $200. Lots of luck... **** An hour passed and I had combed that entire store. Even their sales items cost more than $1,000! We left the store and went to another one. Same problem. I tried three more stores before giving up. "Mike, do you know any cheaper stores?" I asked in desperation. He thought about it and then told me to get into the car. We drove for awhile until we landed at a charity store. "Really?" I asked him in disbelief. "We might as well try," he said. I walked in and spotted a section for fancier dresses. Some of them looked like wedding dresses. I looked through them and noticed that the prices were within my budget. I pulled three out in my size and went to their changing room. The first one made me look sickly. It was lime green with ruffles everywhere. The second one was a pink dress that was way too short. It looked like a giant tube. I sent up a silent prayer to the moon goddess to let this last dress work. I put it on. The color was purple, almost the color of an eggplant. It was long and made of satin. The dress had straps and a v neck. Then back was also a v, but lower. There was a split up both of the sides. I walked out and looked at Mike. He smiled and gave me a thumbs up sign. This was the dress. Now for shoes. I looked at the time. it was 9:00. We had to hurry. None of the shoes in the store would fit me. As I was leaving, I saw the perfect necklace. It was a silver chain with an amethyst violet at the end. It would look perfect with my dress! After paying for my dress and necklace (I only spent $100!), we left to find a shoe store. I had better luck with shoes and found a simple black heel with straps for only $50! I was proud of my bargains! We flew back to the pack house and arrived right on time. Time flies by when you're having fun!
