Branka’s POV
The room was silent.
If a pin was dropped, it would resonate in the whole place. My head was spinning. My heart was beating very fast from the effect of what had just happened that I could not wrap my head around.
Did I just do that?
Before I could wrap my head around that fact, a deep, rich laughter resonated through the room and I raised my head to look at him.
He was laughing. I closed my eyes, thinking that would shield me from hearing the sound of his laughter but it did not do any such thing. I felt like it was good for allowing my emotions to get the best of me and allowed me to actually attack an alpha.
And not just any alpha. The alpha king himself. I could have done this to anyone. Alpha Dorian. Even his puppets. But I never did. I never did. Now, my emotions bubbled over, and I slapped the alpha king in an attempt to irritate him and make him hate me.
Maybe I was really a basket case that I was called because there is no other explanation for this.
I stepped back until my shoulders hit the wall. I was shaking profusely and my eyes were beaded with tears.
Maybe it was a good day to die also. There is always a reason for everything. And my own reason for dying this young was all my own fault and I caused it. That’s better too.
I mean, what’s the point of living a life as worthless as mine? Nothing I’ve ever done has worked for me and I’ve had the worst of it all. I might as well just end it all. It would be better like that. Not as if I will be doing the ending myself since that did not ever work out in my favor. There is a person here that will do it for me.
A very angry person at that.
The sound of his footsteps made me look up. Tears clouded my vision but I could still see his majestic form in front of me.
“I….I should not have done that but I won’t apologize.” My stupid self will still not shut up.
I did not know if I was trying to prove myself to him or if I just wanted to make sure that I left this world in a grand style. At least, that would be better than how I came. Would it not be?
I wiped the tears that were on my face and sniffled trying to do my best to see him very well. The room was not very bright so I could not exactly see him well. But that did not stop me from trying to look at him.
I wanted to see the expression on his face so badly that it was quite hard.
When I finally was able to set my gaze on him, his expression was blank. There was nothing on his face that could pinpoint to me what exactly was going on in his head and that made me feel a little bit on edge.
“Say something.” My voice came out a little bit too warily and I pinched myself in my thigh.
“You seem to think that doing what you do will make me not do what I want to do. I’ll have you know my dear mate, that my threat in that sense still stands. And you hitting me, does not matter. I will still do what I want to do.” His voice came out more gruff than I expected.
But what he said made my jaw drop a little bit.
“You don’t….you don’t want to kill me?” I whispered.
“We will have to do something about that thought of yours.” He said nonchalantly. My gaze fell to the side of his face that was a little reddened from the impact of what I did earlier and I wanted the ground to open up and I would willingly jump inside.
Before I knew what I was doing, my hand raised on its own accord to touch that side of his face. There was a pause in the movement of my hand. I felt like I did not deserve to touch someone like him. I’m not even supposed to breathe in the same space as he is. I’m supposed to be in the background that I was born to be in.
Not seen, not even existing. Just going through life and facing everything that it throws at me by myself.
I dropped my hands myself and bit my lip. “What do you want from me, sir? Is this some kind of elaborate joke that I don’t know about? There is no way you’re in your sane mind and you want to take someone like me as your mate. Make it make sense to me.” I ignored the frown that was on his face when my hand dropped. It was not like he was expecting me to actually touch him.
“It’s not my duty to make anything make sense to you. This is what I want. And I go after anything I want. You’re quite charming if you don’t know.”
“Is that supposed to be a joke?” I asked without thinking. Again.
Before he could reply, the door opened and without thinking, I threw myself to the side, trying to make it as though he was not standing very close to me.
Alpha Dorian and his father walked into the room. My heart started to beat very fast again and I wished that I could shrink into the background so much that no one would notice my sorry existence.
I could feel the eyes of Alpha Dorian on me and fear hung over my head that I could almost feel it dripping down my chin.
“Do you know of the atrocities your son is committing in the pack? Is that how things are done here?” The Alpha King asked. And I did not know why I feel like he should not say things that are not meant to be said.
I don’t know why I felt more scared of Alpha Dorian than my supposed mate.
