Branka’s POV
My eyes opened slowly. It took a while for me to process what was going on around me and by the time I did, my eyes widened in fear.
This place was not strange to me but I did not come here of my own accord. So….
Then there was a sudden rush of memory that came to me about what happened. I focused on what was going on around me, trying to ignore my beating heart. My alpha was being strangled against the wall and he looked like he would die if he was not released soon.
I should shout or try to get help for him. That was supposed to be a default reaction of any pack member if their leader was in danger. But I do not feel anything. Not even a nudge.
I stared at the scene like I was watching a movie. By the time the man who held him let him go and said something I could not get, he left the room, but before sending me a glare that sent shivers down my spine.
The man turned and his eyes met mine and moved back unconsciously. His gaze held mine and I could not even fathom what the color of his eyes was. His aura was scary and from what I just saw right now, he could kill me without blinking. Maybe that would be nice.
“Stop that.” His voice cracked through the air like a whip and I snapped my gaze up to look at him again.
“I…I’m sorry.” I shifted back again. If I did more than this, I would enter the sofa, which was ridiculously soft in contrast to what I was normally used to.
“I won’t hurt you. And you need to get the thoughts of me hurting you out of your head.”
“I’m sorry Alpha King.” I stood up immediately after the words fell out of my mouth. I had totally forgotten the presence of whom I stood.
He started to walk closer to me and I could feel myself shake from the fear of having him this close to me. He said something earlier before I passed out and I was sure that wasn’t real. He called me his mate. I knew that was not possible. And even if it was, he would reject me soon enough. There was no way in hell that a man of his caliber would take a worthless person like me for a mate.
Suddenly, my jaw was grabbed and raised sharply.
“Why do you always think the worst things about yourself?” He asked me and before I could hide it, I snickered.
“You must have heard it from the word vomit I did a couple of hours back. I’m sure my alpha and every other person has told you tales about me. That thing you said earlier about me being your mate is a mistake. It’s not possible. So, do it.” I said to him without fear which was surprising because fear was wracking through my body.
His fingers slowly brushed my jaw and I ignored the stupid feelings that came along with it. I stepped back.
“Reject me and I’ll go on with my life. You won’t hear the news of this anywhere, I won’t speak of it. I don’t deserve it anyway. What am I even saying, I mean, it’s not possible. But since it has happened, you need to spare yourself the unfortunate fact and reject me. Alpha Dorian will be here very soon.” I said shakily. “Can you do it now, so I can leave before he comes back here?” I pleaded with him, tears stinging the back of my eyes. I don’t even care how I looked to him. I just wanted to leave this place. And go somewhere far away. I might just have the luck of being torn to pieces by rogues.
“Look at me.” He said but I did not dare to look. My eyes were planted on the floor, exciting myself with the sight of his shoes since they looked more interesting.
“I said look at me.” There was more force and that made me look into his eyes. “I won’t reject you. And I won’t kill you either.”
“So what is this?” My voice came out very calm contrary to what I was feeling in my head. “You want to keep me as a toy too? Play with me however and whenever you want to?” The audacity that I was feeling right now, I had no idea where he came from.
I pushed at his chest. “See, look at me properly, I’m not your type. You hear me? I’m not anyone’s type. I’m just a fat b***h that should not hold your attention.” I pushed again. The tears were falling down my cheeks right now, but I did not care about them one bit.
He was not bulging.
“Can you hear me at all?!” I shouted at him and he was still not fazed.
“Fine then. If you won’t do it, I will. I’ve heard it goes both ways.” I said with a surrender and started to walk back. “I, Branka, reject you……”
“Don’t you dare complete that statement Branka. And don’t think I’m playing around here. If anything happens to the fragile bond that we have, you will hate me. And you might as well have the blood of your whole pack on your head.” He said with a blank expression on his face.
My lips trembled in anger as I looked at him. I could tell that he was dead serious and he would do what he just said.
“It won’t be a bad idea to die together.”‘I told him.
“Don’t act all strong. I know you’re not. But if you want to try me, do it. I won’t kill you though. And I’ll make you witness the whole thing too.” He told me and suddenly, there was this surge of anger within me. I did not think twice.
I raised my hand and slapped him. So hard that the sound resonated through the whole room and my hand stung from the effect.
