Branka's POV
It felt as though the world was pulled out from underneath my feet. I was mesmerized. Even though I know that I had no powers or anything like that, from the distance I was seeing from right now, I can see the person he is.
He was the man from earlier.
The man that took my breath away even though I am not meant to feel that way for him. The man that gave me his coat even when I did not ask him for it. The man that made my heart skip for the first time in my entire life. The man that made me lose my hard earned control after all these years of bottling my feelings up in my mind. The man I spoke out of turn with and I'm sure right now that he'll have my head.
Well, maybe not literally, he'd have reported me to Alpha Dorian since he was obviously an alpha. He would have told me how much I disrespected him outside the other time.
Oh God.
Maybe that was what all the attention was about. Maybe this was my funeral after all. But then, I don't want to be murdered in front of all these people with their evil eyes digging into me. I can't believe this is happening to me right now. But it has only been a matter of time. I've always had it coming.
I should have this for myself before I die. I should just look at him and admire him. Even if that's all I'll have for myself as I go to my grave.
From here, I could see his eyes twitch a little which was surprising. I don't really recall having a sharp eye sight like this, but then, strange things happen when you want to die right?
The man was handsome. Ethereal. He looks as though he was not made of this world. Sharp facial features and still beautiful and ruthless at the same time. He incorporated all of these features and more that I could not describe in one. It was as though all the other men in this room were meant to answer to him. To be under his feet and that the women were meant to worship him.
He was a different kind of person. I thought she was handsome the first time that I encountered him in the darkness. But nothing can do justice to what I was seeing right now.
He had this stone cold look on his face, and a pose that scares everyone around him. I could not take my eyes off of him, but I could just feel it that everyone here was scared of the man.
I shifted on my feet because I was uncomfortable. Without thinking again, I dropped my gaze because I could no longer hold it anymore. I tried to enter into the background, by shuffling into the crowd on my left side and I regretted it almost immediately.
“What the f**k have you done to get the attention of the Alpha king, you slut?” Jessica whispered furiously into my left ear.
I shook my head as though to deny what she was saying. I can't bring myself to reply to her question because of how silent the hall was.
“Say it now.” She bitched out. I felt a pain in my side and I winced in pain of what felt as though I was pinched. “Tell me why he has to ask for a nobody like you and even threatened the alpha for it. Huh?”
“I don't know what you're talking about Jessica.” I whispered. I don't know why tears came to my eyes. I've endured worse.
Maybe it's because you know that the man you fancy is looking at whatever is going on right now. Or maybe you just want to feel sorry for yourself this once.
“And you stood there like a slut that you were leering at him. You don't have the right to look at a royalty like him with your filthy eyes.” This time around, her voice was loud. I think she did not bother to hide her disdain again.
And I could hear people murmuring in the crowd. As though to support what she was saying to me. I did not raise my head up. I continued to stare at my worn shoes. Having all these people speak I'll of me is not how I pictured that I'll die the other time.
“Get on your knees.” She sneered in my ear. I whipped my head to look at her then. She had this fire in her eyes and some other thing that I could not place my hand on.
“Do it.”
Before I could think too much about it, she pushed me back to the centre of attention that I was before. Right in the direct vision of the man. The forcefulness in the way she did it made me fall on my knees, with my hands on the floor.
I whimpered in pain. I quickly wiped my tears with the back of my hand.
“Fat bitch.”
“Slut.”
“Wolfless girl.”
“That was why she was abandoned.”
That and a series of other hurtful words were hurled at me. But I kept my head down. It was as though they all planned to humiliate me with Jessica at the forefront of the whole thing.
I've made it my mission not to allow their words to get to me any longer and I've succeeded. At least, most of the time.
Right now though, it felt as though those words that seemed as though they meant nothing, were like spears that had been thrown into my body and it hurts.
Hurts so bad that I can't control the way my body shakes with tears.
Maybe it was because of the fact that he was there. Right in front of me. Maybe because he was someone that I would not have wanted to see me in this position. I don't know why I felt like this.
Suddenly, the noise in the whole of the hall stopped and there was a pin drop silence in the whole hall. And it was only the sound of my crying that was in the hall.
My heart crawled and willed me to stop crying, but I could not do it. I was on my hands and knees in front of the whole pack, crying. What a life.
I saw a set of feet in front of me. And I could tell immediately who it was. Even without looking up, his smell wafted through my nose.
Then the most insane thing happened. He got on his knees in front of me, held my shoulders and raised my head up. Through the tears and snort, I could still see his beautiful face.
There was a sound of surprise throughout the whole hall. People started to mumble amongst themselves. I could not take my eyes away from him. Even though their noise was rising.
“What's your name, sunshine?” He asked gently.
Branka. That's my name. I wanted to tell him. But I could not bring myself to say it.
“Branka.” He said. And my eyes widened in shock. Did he just say that or was it my imagination?
Before I could scramble my thoughts together, someone spoke up beside me.
“Alpha king, she's an omega that does not deserve your attention like I said earlier. She is the lowest person in this pack because she does not have a wolf and also she…” I lost Alpha Dorian there.
Did he just say alpha king? Or did I hear wrong or maybe I just already have an ear defect. I laughed maniacally like someone that was insane.
His hand that was round my shoulders lifted me up. If he did not hold me, I would have crumbled to the floor again.
There was no way he could be the alpha king. Right?
“Alpha king, she does not deserve….”
It was as though he wanted to confirm what I was thinking.
The world started to spin around me. Nothing was making any more sense to me.
“Quiet all of you!” His voice boomed throughout the whole hall and silence ensured.
Before I could hear what he wanted to say next, my world went black.
