Anna's POV The strangest part is how normal the morning is. I wake up and the sun is coming through my curtains and the house smells like coffee and my mother is humming in the kitchen the way she does, and down at the dock my father's boat is already gone with the tide, and it's all exactly the same as it was the morning before I fell into the water, the same ordinary safe world I've woken up to my whole life. Except now I know. Now I know there are wolves in it, that the boy I'm falling for isn't human, that there's a creature in the dark holding a piece of string tied to my life, that somewhere out past the town a whole hidden world is grinding toward a deadline that ends with him gone or me dead.
