Evan goes very still. "You think Will knows about Cass. Really knows. Not just new money, deep pockets, but the whole of it."
"I think Will knows more than he's ever let you see," I say. "And I think that makes him the fastest way to understand what Cass is actually planning. Cass won't tell us anything. Cass is a shadow with a phone. But Will is right here, in this town, and he's scared, I've seen it, he's scared of the new money the same way everyone is, and scared people talk if you push them right." I meet Evan's eyes. "If we want to know what's coming, what Cass's real plan is, how the deadline actually plays out, Will is the door. We have to go through Will."
