She comes to the town herself, which is how I know Cass is escalating, because Seraphine would never leave the pack lands without being sent, and Cass would never send her unless he'd decided the fracture Anna and I barely survived was worth pressing while it was fresh.
I feel her before I see her. That's the thing about wolves who grew up in the same small circle, you know each other's scent the way you know a childhood home, and I'm walking the harbor road at dusk when it reaches me, cold and clean and familiar, pack scent, wolf scent, a smell from a life I ran from three years ago, and my whole body goes rigid because it means my world has finally, physically, come here, to the town where I hid, to the streets where Anna lives.
