Evan tells me everything, the same night, and that's how I know the fracture is healing, because a week ago he'd have managed this, decided what I could handle, and instead he comes to my window in the dark and lays it all out, every piece, the way he promised on the headland.
Seraphine is here. The arranged mate, in our town, sent by Cass. And Evan met her on the sea wall, our sea wall, and instead of the beautiful pack princess coming to steal him home, he found a woman as trapped as he ever was, and he made a gamble, he told her the truth about the poison and the plan, and she didn't run to Cass with it. She asked for proof. And if she gets it, she'll turn, she'll be their eyes inside the estate, inside Cass's own house.
