“Mummy said you were away working and we might not see you for a long time, but you came back,” Jenny announced seriously
“Yes, darling, I"m back and I"ll be here for you whenever you need me.” Tom kept his voice gentle but he stared at Anne, his expression fierce.
Her reaction was to look back just as sternly. “Arthur"s already told you what needs to happen. You don"t want to upset the children, do you?”
It wasn"t like Anne to be so prepared, calm and manipulative. He guessed she"d had help in planning this ambush and he suspected it was Arthur"s work.
Fighting to keep his emotions in check, he replied. “You"re wrong Anne, we need to talk and we need to talk alone. We"ve got ourselves into this and we need to agree on the way out of it. No-one else, just you and me.”
