Michaela POV
We hurriedly walked towards them. I was wearing an over-sized flannel shirt and jeans, and Anya had on a t-shirt and jeans. Yes I know we were dressed so fancily. When we reached Hunter and Jared, they lead us to their car in the parking lot.
“Oh my God, you have a Gladiator!” I shouted scaring them a bit.
“Well I’m glad to know you like it because it’s my favorite car,” Hunter said seemingly amused.
“You know, in my opinion Gladiators look kind of weird. I prefer normal pickup trucks.” Anya chimed in.
“Yeah, same,” Hunter agreed, “normal pickup trucks look better.”
“You guys act like I even care about your opinions. I just love Jeeps,” I said.
We got to the car, and Hunter and Jared opened our doors for us. Why do I actually appreciate this? When I got inside the car, Hunter handed me an auxiliary cord.
“You can play some music if you want,” he stated.
I looked back at Anya and smirked. I pulled up The Wine, Beer, Whiskey by Little Big Town. We all started singing along and laughing our heads off. I continued to play random country songs, including Country Roads. Before I knew it, we had pulled up to Chick-fil-a, and were in the drive-thru.
“What do you guys want?” asked Hunter.
“I’ll take a six piece grilled chicken nugget Kid’s meal, with fries as a side, Sprite for the drink, and an ice cream cup for the surprise,” I said excitedly. I love Chick-fil-a.
“I’ll have the same as her,” Anya said.
“The usual?” Hunter asked, directed towards Jared. Jared nodded in response.
We got our food and were driving away when I pulled up Chick-fil-a by Tim Hawkins. Then as the song was playing, and we were all laughing at how true it was, I started to eat some of my food.
“Michaela!” Hunter yelled as we pulled up to a stoplight.
“Oh my God, you scared me. What?” I responded, eating a fry.
“Don’t eat the food yet.”
“Fine,” I obliged, quite annoyed, “Where are we going anyways?”
“It’s a surprise.”
“Seriously?”
“Seriously,” he repeated.
“Would you tell me if I said I don’t like surprises?”
“No.”
I glanced to the back seat to ask for help from Anya, and she and Jared were staring into each other’s eyes. I looked at Hunter and gestured to them. He looked in the rearview mirror and smirked at me. I was trying not to laugh. Then I had an idea. I looked at Hunter, and he smirked knowingly. At that moment I turned the music up all the way.
“Ow! What the f*ck guys!” They shouted at the same time.
Hunter and I were laughing, and he goes, “sorry to interrupt you two lovebirds, but we’re almost here.”
I was just laughing my head off the whole time. I hope he doesn’t think I’m weird for laughing so much. Wait, why do I even care?
We got out of the car, and there was an amazing view. We were at an overlook that had some picnic tables nearby. We all sat down and ate our Chick-fil-a and talked and laughed a lot.
I almost forgot why we were even going on this double date, but then I remembered what had happened that morning.
“So, umm... Hunter you said you would explain what happened this morning over a date. Here we are, so are you going to explain yourself?”
“How about we go for a walk in the woods, and Jared and I can explain everything,” Hunter replied.
“As long as you don’t take us into the woods and kill us sure.” We started walking towards a little trail near the overlook.
“Well,” Hunter said, “Jared and I we’re umm we’re-”
“Would you just spit it out already?”
“We’re werewolves.”
I started laughing so hard I was crying. “That’s seriously the best excuse you could come up with?” I laughed, “there are some pretty stupid excuses out there for what went on this morning, but this is just stupid. You dragged me and my friend on a date to tell us this?” I laughed some more, but they were all looking at me. “Wait, so you mean to tell me you are serious about this?”
Hunter and Jared nodded their heads slowly. Anya just seemed to be in a complete daze.
“Well how do you expect me to believe you?” I asked, “what do you want me to do wait around for a full moon or something, and what does this even have to do with this morning?”
“We don’t need a full moon to shift, so we could prove it right now. As for the rest, we can do that after.” Hunter finally responded.
Hunter and Jared went behind some trees. At first, I was confused, but I soon realized why when I saw them toss their clothes on the ground. Anya and I looked at each other and just stood there waiting for something to happen.
All of a sudden, we heard these cringe worthy cracking noises, and when we looked over, there were two wolves standing in front of us. I could easily tell that the bigger one was Hunter. He had a dark gray wolf with grayish brown eyes. He was extremely majestic. Jared had light brown fur with bright blue eyes.
Hunter came up to me and nuzzled his nose against me. Even as a wolf he was big, he was taller than my chest. I'm not very tall. I'm 5'3", but he was a big wolf.
They both went behind the trees again and shifted back. Then we continued the walk with them explaining how a pack works. Hunter was an Alpha, - I think that's what they called it - and that meant he was the leader of the pack.
"So, Chae," Hunter started, "the reason I acted that way this morning is because you are my mate."
"Your what?" I asked.
"Your mate. Basically it means that once a wolf turns eighteen and shifts, they all have another wolf or person in this case, that they are destined to be with." He went on to explain the mate bond, and what mates typically do.
"So, you expect me to instantly fall in love with you, have s*x, and become your Luna because we're 'meant to be together,'" I said, using finger quotations.
"No, Chaela, I'm not gonna rush or force you into anything. We can go as slow as you want. That's just what wolves usually do. Obviously, you're human and it sounds really stupid, and I get that, but please give me a chance."
