Luke Miller’s POV in the form of a written letter Anna, I want to be sure to give you a comprehensive understanding of how things work here at Suncreek Ranch. I must mention, though, that we typically don't hire individuals without prior experience with horses. Personally, I haven't had much exposure to working with them myself, as my role on the ranch has always been on the administrative side. But let me assure you, there is no shortage of tasks to be done here. Suncreek Ranch has a rich history, tracing back to its origins as a horse and cattle ranch established by my wife's family, the O'Reillys, when they first crossed the Oregon Trail. The ranch has been operating successfully for countless generations, a testament to the resilience and hard work of our family. Following the passing of my parents, my twin brother brother Duke little sister, Leah, and I took over our family's farm, which was located adjacent to the O'Reilly Ranch. However, my farm primarily focused on crops, such as orchards and aromatherapy plants. now Duke married Rose’s best Friend Casey and they have their nice little shindig, roadhouse, diner, Dukes bar, and Grill as you know. When I married Miss Rose, we merged our properties, resulting in a sprawling 3000-acre ranch just outside the town of Heston. We are the main source of employment for the 500 residents who call Heston home, with the exception of a few small businesses. Now, let me delve into the nitty-gritty details of how our ranch operates, from the production of hummus to the various areas and individuals in charge of each aspect. I’ll start off by telling you what everyone is in charge of and what they do. Every day is filled with detailed and meticulous tasks that require great skill and accuracy. One of the main responsibilities of a rancher is taking care of the horses. This involves not only providing food and shelter for the animals, but also training them to be reliable and obedient companions. The training process is a crucial aspect of a rancher's job. It requires a deep understanding of the horses' behavior and needs. With great patience and dedication, a rancher must teach the horses how to respond to commands and perform various tasks, such as herding cattle or pulling wagons. This requires a level of detail and precision that is unparalleled. Apart from training, ranchers also compete with their horses. This could involve participating in rodeos, where they showcase their skills and compete against other cowboys. In these competitions, the riders must demonstrate their ability to control and ride their horses with grace and accuracy. The intense training and practice that goes into these competitions is a testament to the dedication and hard work of a rancher. Another aspect of a rancher's life is pasture breeding studs. This is a process of carefully selecting and breeding male horses to produce strong and healthy offspring. It requires a keen eye and a thorough understanding of genetics to ensure that the best traits are passed down to the next generation. Ranchers take great pride in their breeding program and are constantly striving to improve the quality of their horses. Lastly, a key role of a rancher is that of a broncobuster. This involves breaking in wild horses and training them to be rideable. It is a dangerous and challenging task that requires courage, skill, and patience. Ranchers must use their knowledge and experience to gentle the horses and gain their trust before they can be ridden. From caring for their horses to training them and competing with them, every aspect of their job demands meticulous attention and hard work. It is a way of life that is deeply rooted in tradition and requires a deep passion for the land and the animals.
