—That's the Hiroko family, well, in fact, it is Kenneth's family as well —she looked at them—, they're gray wolves. They're quite independent but very territorial. Most of them have become guards from the palace or the entire kingdom. Hm, oh! They're the Sicilies.
—Huh?
She turned to where the blonde was pointing. People with red and brown hair.
—They are red wolves, supposed to be sociable but most of them are always from high hierarchy and work by themselves. Oh, someone has a special treat tho. Do you see that man over there? He is Simon, Gale's brother, now he is the leader of the Sicilios's pack and his wife is waiting for offsprings.
Emma smiled.
—What are you talking about? —Noah approached them when Isaac and Dianne got away for him to be close to his children and his favorite. Brighton and the last one being looked at him smiling.
—He is explaining the families for me —she mentioned—, those over there, I know who they are.
—The Sonora's family —Noah said—, they're Mexican wolves. Good hunters at night, great night vision, they're guards on the night. They're weird though, and they only obey our queen and alpha or to Isaac because he is terrifying but they don't like me.
—Look, ¡grandma Katia! —Brighton pointed to a beautiful woman of red long hair and blue eyes who was embraced for a blonde alpha. Noah and Brighton smiled—. They are arctic wolves. The Tusan, my grandpa Malvin's family.
Emma saw Noah smiling as always.
—We are white wolves —he told her—, we are very adaptable and we can easily withstand any weather, we are very attached. When you see a lonely one it is because he is trying to create his own herd or we are looking for food for our family, too ... we are very territorial. We have a lot of skills as werewolves, actually.
—Not too many as the Autumn's through —Isaac reached them—. Well, well, my name is Isaac Autumn, nice to finally meet you, miss Seshat. I hope we get along just fine.
—Nice to meet you too, your highness —she bowed—. So... Are you a black wolf too?
—Indeed.
Noah cleared his throat when the children started walking again and pushed her away. She saw how Isaac returned to the previous formation, always the Alpha was behind the pack to protect them all and have a perfect vision of them.
—Himalayas wolves, Chiue's family —he pointed—. They are big, strong and they have pretty good stamina. I don't recommend starting a fight with them —he laughed—. Next to them, the Nathual family. They are really good strategists, their perception of the world is different, they are not that aggressive but don't think they're not dangerous. They are just cautious but kind too.
—I see —she remained quiet while looking at one of them smoking, looks like he was the alpha of that particular pack. For the way Noah and he greeted, she could say they were friends and for some reason, his face looked familiar to her—. Who is he?
—Don't you remember him?
—So I know him... Hm —she mumbled.
Noah laughed.
—It's Sean —he said.
—Oh, I didn't recognize him with the hair loosen —she excused herself, smiling awkwardly.
—Those are Siberians, I have seen them —she said while looking at a black-haired people with grey eyes—. Are they Nathan and Claire's relatives?
—Totally —he said—, you're good observer, that's good. And yes, the Melídes are Siberian wolves, an excellent vision which makes them, well, got at mostly everything, also they have good stamina too.
—Baffin wolves —she said when her eyes met the family with fewer people.
—They're Reyham's family —he said, looking at Brighton and the twins saying hi to their grandparents—. The Chester family unified here a couple of years, all of them are normal omegas if you could say so, they look protection and they're not pretty good at interacting with the human world. They aren't too close to anyone that I can tell —he just bowed his head to greeted them.
—What about them? —she pointed to a quiet and lonely pack that watched their children on the playground, they were throwing stones at each other. Wasn't that kinda violent for them? Nobody cares about, she thought.
—Nazenim grandma! —Noah smiled at a woman like fifty years old with ashen hair and hazel eyes, who punched him when he got close—. Ayay, I'm your sultan, respect me.
—I'm not that old to be called granma, you brat —the alpha growled. She belonged to the Yukón family and Emma laughed—. Oh, this cute little girl. Is she your daughter with Soleil?
Emma got freeze.
—And you tell me you're not old. Is your sight failing or what? —Noah was ashamed—. Damn, granma. She is my new favorite, Seshat, it isn't weird you haven't seen her before, she is new.
—Oh, yes, I think you danced together on Soleils birthday —she said, smiling—. Forgive me, The wolves of my pack are at your service, we are excellent doctors, do not doubt it. We're the best.
—That's because the Yukon wolves tend to be faced with many diseases —he said—, but my grandmother is so strong and she studied medicine when she was young, a long time ago.
The woman punched him again.
—And the other families?
—Right, they are the families where Ayze, Narges and... Um, don't you wanna eat something?
Emma was curious but she didn't say anything. On the other hand, Isaac was looking at Dianne.
—Are you feeling okay?
—Yes, umpteenth —she growled, upset—. I hate when you treat me like a doll who can't fend for herself when you know it's pretty much the opposites, Isaac Autumn.
—Alright, alright, I'm just worried —he raised her hands—. And? Do you have any questions?
Dianne smiled and shook her head as she allowed herself to be cared for by her husband.
Reyham turned to look silently at a painting of her with her princes, being in the morning room. Beside her, a black-haired man with big eyes of the same color stood watching her in silence, expectant. She had sent for that guard but she could not find the words to speak.
—Sultan —she shut him up immediately.
—I heard that a boy on your gang disappears a couple of days —she clicked her tongue—, I guess you know who I mean.
—Nathan —he bowed his head while she raised her eyebrow—. He is one guard of my brigade and yes, he's not here but he is superior to me.
Apparently, the Alpha sent him on a reconnaissance mission that is estimated to take a while, departing one night after the Alpha's absence.
—A night later?
—Ah, no —he snapped his fingers—. The same night, if I recall.
—Are you sure about that?
He affirmed with his head.
—Kenneth was the one who escorted him, said something about similar roads. Hmm ... I think he was going close to where he was supposed to take the Alpha for the rutting season, so they went together —he told her—. Idris said that he would be back in a couple of months because he's going out and far away.
—How fat?
—Well, I think he isn't going just a city but a new country —he hesitated—. Why are you interested in him if I may know?
—Oh —she pressed her lips—, Soleil sultan didn't say where she was going. I think she is fine if you're saying she went with Kenneth. I was just worried.
—Don't worry about her, sultan, our alpha is strong —he assured—. If you need something, here you have your loyal server, Alexander.
—Very well, Alexander, you can go and rest now —she smiled at him. The man bowed and got out of her room. Her green eyes went to the picture again.
One day, Bartolo would be the Alpha and Sultan, she would become a mother sultana, and that reserve would reign, without a doubt. The smile on her face didn't go away for years.
—Are you okay? —the silver-haired looked the woman throwing up—. Don't worry, I asked Nathan to bring you something for your sickness and our freaking strawberries too.
—It's okay —she washed her mouth and looked at him—, and I don't think he can get something for my sickness, at least it won't work in a few months or maybe until I gave birth to it.
—What?
She nodded and then put a finger to her own lips, hinting to keep quiet about it. Kenneth didn't see her happy, but he saw her free of her, and it was enough for both of them in the end. He then nodded and smiled as he congratulated her silently, just before Nathan entered the apartment with two bags and a basket of strawberries. The raven-haired woman grunted with complacency and pounced on her beta right away, as she smacked him on the cheek and snatched her basket from his hands. Nathan was dumbfounded.
—She just smacked my cheek —he mumbled.
Kenneth laughed.
Pregnant females tended to be more territorial, affectionate, and grumpy than normal. The one waiting for the long-haired, gray-eyed black-haired man was a very good new one, which he would not express to him, clearly.
The Alpha's rutting season was over, and with it, everyone was waiting attentively for the Alpha's return. Especially Noah and Idris were extremely nervous, waiting for his return, both wanted to see their respective partners. So they had spent the last few days finishing up all the reports, jobs, and improvements they could make, just to have time to be there when the scent of both Alphas reached their nostrils. They spent it talking calmly.
—Sir —Sean, the alpha of the Nathual family approached with a bored face. They were in the chambers where they study affairs of the kingdom, they both looked at him.
—Sean, buddy! —Noah hugged him—. How have you been? What brings you here?
—Kenneth's scent in the south entrance, five kilometers away from here —he yawned. He didn't usually sleep much, his wife was very grumpy, and his son was just as annoying as she was when he proposed, so besides his tiring job, he didn't have much time to rest. Idris and Noah's eyes widened—. The Atari family is tracking the scent.
—Oh, great. That means they're back already —he smiled.
Sean nodded and yawning, Noah then left along with Idris and the black-haired man, heading for the harem. He asked for sweets to be distributed in the palace and went out with his three trusted guards - Idris, Gale, and Alexander - and his personal advisor, Sean. It didn't take them long to reach the south side of the reserve, and they were impatient as the musk smell grew stronger.
—This is weird —Dianne looked at her. Emma was smelling the air.
—I don't know if we are too far but I can just smell Kenneth's scent. I cant notice the alpha —she mumbled, looking at the blonde girl. She didn't seem to be shocked or something.
—I think it's because she's using the necklace... Apparently, it allows her to hide her scent, it's special even if I'm not that sure why does she use it or why does she want to hide her smell but when she outside she wears it all the time —she told her—. I think she uses it because it allows her to run away every time she wasn't to.
—What if she wants to protect her identity as the alpha? Clearly, if she wants to remain hidden as a woman she must hide the scent from her or in every case tells everyone she's the wife of the alpha —she mumbled back, thoughtful.
Dianne looked at her quietly, wondering if she knew it or not.
—I don't know —the human woman said—, but it's a good theory you can work on it. Maybe she wants to protect herself and everyone else as well, as she always does. She's a smart girl, you know.
—Yeah, I know —Seshat smiled. She didn't wanna say anything but she wouldn't be surprised if Soleil would run away, especially if she knew they would think she didn't smell because of the magic necklace. Once she got back to the chambers assigned to her, she sighed.
Noah was eager to see her at last, he had suffered terribly being separated from her. Although, despite being each other's destined couple, both remained "free." Still, it was painful for him as a man in love to withdraw from her great love. Her luck was that Seshat had turned out to be a great lover and good company in addition to her, a bonus that he was grateful for since she had made him forget about her most of the time. Like a nice distraction.
—I cant see them —Gale mumbled—. Dammit, if Nate were here, he would see them faster.
—That's true —Alexander nodded. Of course, Nathan was part of the Melides clan so he had such a wonderful vision—. But he is not here so we'll have to wait.
—Come here, I brought some snacks, this is gonna take a while —Idris sat at an old log that fell in the last storm. The younger looked like puppies waving their tails to receive some food.
Noah rolled his eyes.
Everything was pleasant and calm, at least for a while, while the guards laughed and talked, telling anecdotes and others, with Alexander being the most talkative, Idris very participative, and Gale only answering a couple of monosyllables from time to time including small smiles. Noah was the first to spot the gray wolf approaching, alone, and he panicked.
—Where is she? —he mumbled.
Everyone, feeling his tension, raised their heads and in the middle of the last kilometer, Kenneth stopped behind a tree to change shape and dress in the clothes that he carried in the bag that he carried on his nose all that time. He wrapped it around her shoulders and began to run in his human form until he reached them. He was breathing hard and just avoiding his gaze.
—How...?
Noah tensed and then, in an act of rage, he began to scream. Kenneth didn't look hurt, but the black wolf didn't appear, his scent was untraceable and Noah suspected that the silver-haired man knew something he didn't want to know. And his heart ached, he felt abandoned and hurt, he exploded in rage.
—It can't be true —he babbled.
—I'm sorry, your majesty but I couldn't stop her —Kenneth bowed—. Her order was clear and bold, she told me to get back to the pack, take care of my family and keep doing my job as always.
—"I won't take a no for an answer, Kenneth —she told him before—. You'll go over there and will be the good husband and father that you already are, you'll keep working at the palace as the royal guard and that's it. I want to make a new life, a good one this time, so I'll go back when I'm done here" —she promised before disappearing on that plane, hand to hand with the black-haired man, who only say bye with a sad face.
Noah let out a growl of frustration and tearing his clothes, he had become that majestic arctic wolf that he was, to run to the forest and not return for at least four hours after running and looking for her with Sawyer like crazy. He found nothing but his own despair.
—If she's using the necklace we won't find her —he barked.
—We have to find her! —the arctic wolf growled.
Even if he was in a very calm herd and they were too many people on it, in the end, Sawyer had been absolutely alone. He had very well-developed instincts because for years he had to live on them alone, when he lost his pack, he walked the world without hope. He stole a life, did not study, and hated the outside world to die. Then he had met Soleil, he had fallen in love with her at first since just like he, she had a great connection with his wolf side, but when she showed him her true self ... He swore his eternal gratitude for giving him a pack, and your loyalty forever, at all costs.
—Tell me —Isaac blinked and turned to see the silver-haired one when he reacted to the news about his sister—, Is she coming back?
—She will —everyone looked at her.
The sultan's favorite smiled while looking at the floor and Isaac raised his eyebrow.
—She said she will come back even if she told me that it won't be that soon though —he said.
—Wait... Did you know about this? —Isaac took her by her shoulders.
She bowed.
—I'm sorry about that but she forbid me to tell you until Kenneth could come back, and she didn't say where or for how long —she answered.
Isaac knew by her pheromones that she wasn't lying and loosened his grip and let his wife guide him to a bar where he could sit.
—Do you know where she is? —she looked at Kenneth.
—No, I'm sorry, she didn't tell me where she was going —he raised his shoulders and sighed. At least, Kenneth thought, she was with Nathan and he would give his life to protect her, much more now that she carried his offspring.
Nathan pressed his mandible.
—Are you okay? —Soleil mumbled.
He turned to see her and smiled.
—I am... It's just that I've never been on a plane before —he was holding the seat really strong. He had goosebumps because of the turbulence and Soleil could notice it, she smiled and put her head on his shoulder, making the young heart beat faster.
—You don't have to fear —she yawned—, I'm here for you... I'm tired, you know?
—Of course, you are —he smiled, caressing her face.
Even if he couldn't stop thinking about the pack. But he was happy, his dream came true and it feels really good. The most beautiful woman in the kingdom, the queen, chose him and she was pregnant because of him while traveling onto the unknown looking for a new life.
Soleil's pregnancy would last 63 days like that of a normal female wolf due to her nature and a bit of magic, so they had to reach their destination as soon as possible, get a suitable nest in the forest that she chose, and basically live like wolves until their cubs were born. If it is true that, if she had preferred it, she could give birth in human form, she Soleil wanted to pass on it.
—They're gonna be black wolves or...
—Siberian —she mumbled without open her eyes—, they probably look like you.
—It was a week only —he murmured. It is that the wolves have a period of heat of between five to fifteen days, so it was something surprising that it was very controlled—. That's good tho, I'll be dead by now.
—If we had completely transformed you wouldn't feel this way —she replied—, but that's not convenient for you, I can tell.
—Whys that?
—One day I turned myself and broke the chains and part of the cabin, Kenneth couldn't hold me back and he had to call Idris to sedate me —she sighed.
Nathan looked at her surprised.
—Must be hard —he didn't know what to say. She smiled.
—It is in the past, now you are here and I trust that you will protect us as well —she said, caressing her belly. Nathan looked at her with admiration and then he bowed his head while kissing her hand.
Then a sigh interrupted the moment, it was a flight attendant who smiled nervously when they saw her. Nathan was confused.
—You two are a very cute couple —she said and both blushed—, you want something?
—We have all we want right now —he said—, we're going to get married because we're pregnant.
Summer pressed her jaw and looked at her feet while her whole face was so red.
—Oh, my! Congrats! —she laughed softly—, but I meant the food... or something to drink.
—Oh —they asked for something to eat and drink immediately but they were embarrassed when the woman congratulated them again before go away.
Soleil looked at him.
—You know that I will be just Summer Abrahams for you since now, so you should stop referring to me as alpha or Soleil —she said lowly—, got it? And don't tell we're getting married, it's weird.
—Ah... Okay —he apologized and she denied it with his head.
—Don't misunderstand me, you're my mate now but I don't like human marriage —she sighed.
—That has a story, I presume —he said.
She bowed but didn't tell anything and start eating the moment the flight attendant came back with their food. He smiled when she took his hand.
—I'm sorry, this is impossible —Sawyer sighed turning into a human and sat on the grass without caring about being naked. The sultan rolled his eyes and sat in his wolf shape because he wasn't that connected to nature—. You won't find her like this. The only person able to find her... is dead, Noah.
Noah frowned.
—You mean-? Don't do that —he shook his head—. As you said, it's impossible. We should go back to the pack and... Put a damn sheet or something. Aren't you ashamed?
—I don't —he smiled—. Why would I? My body is perfect, I am perfect —he emphasized.
Noah rolled his eyes as he laughed and asked the one to come home. The black-haired man soon transformed and both wolves ran in the direction of the reserve, once they made sure that there was no suspect nearby, they howled to alert the wolves of the security towers where they were monitoring the surroundings of the reserve, and crossed the magic barrier courtesy of their Alpha.
—Seshat —Dianne called her and she raised the look from the chair where she was reading a couple of books about her career. Now that she would be three months without going to college because of the winter vacations, she had to maintain her lectures and study a lot so the beginning of the year exams would give her headaches.
—Yes?
—Are you busy?
—Oh, I was just studying, come on in —she pushed the books away and looked at her—, do you need something?
—I just... wanted to talk —she answered, looking at her lady-in-waiting to stay outside with the guards before looking at Emma with a little and nervous smile.
—Take a seat —she smiled her, appreciating her belly—, how long?
—Like four months —Seshat saw her making a thoughtful face and then smile—, yep.
—Wow, it must be great —she smiled too—, and tell me. What do you want to talk about?
The blonde arched her eyebrow.
—Oh, come on, I know that you don't want just talk —she made finger quotes, the blonde laughed—. Is about the alpha? —she inquired this time, looking at her with curiosity. The blonde didn't look surprised so she smiled and bowed her head—. Is it because she ran away? I don't know why or for how long but... I know she let me, um, know it before disappearing.
—What did she tell you?
—Something about Reyham pretending to ascend and it's true, she told me that I must win sultans heart and give him a prince to become a sultan first and then ascend —she did not know if she was supposed to keep that as a secret but she trusted Dianne—. I don't know what she saw in me if I barely lived here for a while but... I just don't know.
Dianne smiled.
—She saw herself in you —Seshat frowned—. You are like her, not just in your wolf shape, she was like you when she was young... Well, younger —she laughed softly.
—I don't get it.
—She was a sultan —Dianne put her finger over her lips and looked at the ceiling—, as far as I know, she was very quiet and peaceful, she never get anyone angry. She was human unlike her brothers and sisters so she was the black sheep in her family. That was what her brother Ezra always told her.
—Oh, she told me about him a little. I know that she...
—Killed him —Dianne affirmed—, her eyes look sad since then. When Ezra killed her family, he only pitied her because she was just a simple human, not a threat at all. He sent away every sister he had but Isaac thinks he sent assassins over them and he says that if his mother wouldn't sense anything and sent him away giving him by dead, Ezra would take care of him too —she sighed.
Her eyes looked fulfilled with sadness and melancholy.
—It must be hard, I can't understand it at all, I was always... Outside, and that —Emma said.
—Yeah, I guess we can get it that well because we lived most of our lives on the outside, and Summer, well, she did the right thing. Even before coming here, she already thought of giving her best for everyone.
Seshat talked to Dianne for a while longer, they exchanged a few words about each other, discovering that the oldest was an artist, while she explained some aspects of the economy that would probably serve her and promising that when she graduated, she would give her a project plan so that her business would always prosper economically. Night came and as she was getting used to it, Gale appeared with Idris to put on her makeup and escort her to the Sultan's chambers. Noah just smiled when she saw him and invited him to take a seat at the side of the small table with the food.
—I'm glad to see you —he said when they started eating.
She raised her eyes confused.
—I... I am sorry about my behavior this afternoon, I guess you heard about it —he continued. For his scent, she could imagine him as a puppy ducking ears as an apology and she smiled—. It is just that I felt so betrayed. Soleil used to tell me everything and she just ran away, she left and it feels like she abandoned everything —Even if I gave her permission, he thought.
—I'm sure it isn't like that —she put her hand over his—, maybe she had something to do that was worthy of leaving soon. You know her better than I do, tell me... What could make her leave? I think she loves this place more than her own life.
I am the reason, Noah told himself and looked at the floor.
—You're right, she loves and protects the pack way more than herself —he sighed—, probably something happened, and that's what worries me. What if she got caught and didn't run? While she has that damn necklace, we can't track her.
Soleil did it once, she could do it again.
—The necklace?
Although she knew of the necklace from Dianne, she felt that it was something she shouldn't know unless it came from the mouth of the Sultan himself. Then Noah's jaw dropped and then shook his head, as if he had realized he had made a mistake but still, he trusted her.
—Her mother Kira gave her a necklace with magic attributes when she born —he told her—. It's supposed to protect her since she was a human raised in a pack of wolves, she needed protection and the necklace could adapt to that need allowing her to magic.
