We sit on the couch, and everything was fine. We were having a cute moment, an adorable normal conversation.
And then there was knock on the door.
"Joseph," I call.
"On it Miss." he opens the door, and...who is it but—
"Christine? What are you doing here?"
She smiles, stepping past Joseph. "I'm here to see you."
Scar sets me upright, beside him, then puts a little space between us.
"Christine, um...you look beautiful."
I frown. "Excuse me?"
"Oh thank you. Remind me of your name."
He gets up, extending his hand. Then he pauses then wipes his hand, extending it again.
"Scar."
"What an odd name," she smiles.
"Yes, it is."
They hold hands, staring at each other for a while.
I clear my throat. "So how did find us, Christine? It's a little creepy you just showing up at an address no one gave you."
"Oh Y'know google tells you everything."
"Except my name isn't tied to this place and according to you, you didn't know his name until just now. That's creepy, Christine."
"Maureen," Scar chastises me. "Be nice to your sister, she's a guest."
I scoff. "Right. I'm gonna go to bed. Christine, nice to see you. Leave."
She smiles. "Always so hostile."
Scar smiles at her again. "I don't know what's gotten into her. She's just...she can be a little much."
I don't hear the rest of the conversation. I head up to my room, and go to sleep.
The next morning, I don't come down for breakfast. Even after Joseph calls me.
Apparently, Christine decided to stay, and Scar decided that was okay. Without even asking me.
A few hours of hunger later, Scar comes up. He bathes into the room, staring at me with a frown.
"What is your problem?"
"Excuse me?" I ask.
"You're treating your sister like a stranger."
"Well one of us has to! You're treating her like she's your girlfriend, which I thought I was. But obviously not."
He rolls his eyes. "What are you talking about?"
"The way you brushed me aside and then—put space between us, to talk to her. You disregarded me, and my wishes. Do you...like her or something?"
He looks away.
"I think you're sisters very nice."
I scoff. "You didn't even ask if I wanted her stay here. In our home."
"Technically, and this is purely legal terms of course, it's my home."
I smile. "Okay. That makes sense. I'll go to home then."
He sighs. "No, come on Maureen,"
"No no, it's okay. You obviously like my sister far more than you like me. So if you need some time to get to know her and see if you like her, that's fine."
He paused. He thinks about it.
"Really?"
Oh my f**k he's actually retarded.
"Yeah Scar really. Go ahead. Do you need to confirm your feelings for me?"
He smiles. "That would be so nice. Thank you for being so understanding."
I smile. "Yeah. It was nice knowing you, Scar. I hope you figure it out."
He chuckles, taking my hand as I start dressing to leave.
"Cmon it sounds like you don't actually want me to...oh, you don't want me to talk to her do you?"
"No it's fine. I don't have to be here to see do I? I'll go home. You call me when you made up your mind."
He smiles and takes my hand.
"I know this odd. It seems strange. But...I knew her before I knew you. And I just wanna make sure of how I feel...for you. It's a long story, and I'll tell you—"
"It's fine Scar. Do what you need to do. Whatever that is."
He kisses my forehead, and leaves. So I pack a few things and I get in the limo and I drive home.
That i***t doesn't realize what he's done.
But that's okay.
