Chapter 13I sat glancing out the window at the off-campus coffee shop to where students and business people passed by on the sidewalk, heading to work and classes. My lunch arrived in hot tinfoil. Liam arrived in sweatpants and a tight white tank top, his deep dark tan standing out against the white fabric of his T-shirt. The sinewy muscles in his thick arms flexed as he gripped the back of the chair, and sat down facing me. He flashed me an inviting smile. “I’m sorry about last time,” I said. “No need to apologize. How are you doing?” “Trying to stay strong.” “For who?” I peeled tinfoil from the edges of my hot meatball sub, the smell of hamburger drifting up to my nose and making my mouth water.
