Unknown POV
My need throbbed as I sucked greedily on her luscious lips. Her sweet scent flooded my lungs and I knew that I would do anything to make her mine, truly mine. A soft moan escaped her even as her hands on my chest tried to push me away but this time, I wasn’t going to let her.
“You owe me,” I growled as my hands pinned hers above her head and I seized the opportunity to press my body against hers.
“I owe you nothing!” The anger in her voice was overshadowed by lust and I grinned in satisfaction, knowing that she was just as affected by me as I was by her.
“That’s what you would like to think,” I teased as I trailed kisses down her neck while my hips grinded against her body. “Don’t forget that I’m the keeper of your secrets.”
“F*ck this,” she cursed before another moan filled the tiny walk-in closet. Instead of struggling against my hold, she stopped before wrapping one leg around my waist. Taking that as my cue, I let go of her arms and unzipped my pants before tearing her flimsy tanga off. A pair of arms circled my shoulders as I lifted her up and pinned her onto the wall.
“Just, this, once,” she panted word by word as I thrusted into her wet and welcoming hole.
“That’s what you said the last time, my dear,” I whispered in amusement before picking up my speed until the both of us reached our peak together. “Look at how perfect we are for each other.”
“I don’t give a damn about perfect,” she said with disdain. “I only want to claim what’s rightfully mine!”
Ethan’s POV
“Is that really necessary?” Jove’s Alpha voice had every non-werewolf beings in the room shifting uncomfortably while the rest of us bowed our heads in submission.
“We’re thankful for your hospitality and support, Alpha, but if you think that gives you the right to tell me how to perform my spells, then I think you’ve got it all wrong.” The stern warning from Ana sent me into panic mode and broke the power of Jove’s Alpha voice over me.
“Please, Jove,” I pleaded. I knew that my cousin had my best interest in my heart but the last thing that I needed was for Ana to despise me more. Besides, I was ready to do whatever it took to find Laila, even if it meant giving my life.
“Jove,” my cousin-in-law said softly as she gently took my cousin’s hand in hers. “I trust Ana, and this is the best lead that we have since Laila was taken. I think you should let Ethan make his own decisions.”
My cousin’s face softened and his aura calmed down, giving everyone in the room some breathing space. “Fine,” he conceded, “but Dr. Heil will be the one to extract the blood from Ethan’s heart, not your witch healer.”
“Very well,” Ana agreed before turning to me. “Shall we?”
I nodded without hesitation as I followed Ana into the forest with everyone else close behind us. After one successful attempt at contacting Laila in my dream state during the day, we were unable to establish this connection anymore, and as the clock ticked, my heart grew heavier, knowing full well that Laila might not have much time left before something horrible happened to her. When Ana suggested modifying an ancient spell used by the First Witch to locate the Original Alpha when he was in danger, there was no doubt in my mind that I was in, even if this spell required fresh blood from my heart.
“Are you ready?” Ana’s gaze fell on me as she drew an ordinary looking dagger from its sheath. For the first time since we met, there was no hostility or disgust in her gaze, and even Lovis was looking at me with eyes full of hope.
“Ready as I would ever be,” I said firmly.
Ana nodded solemnly before turning back to the bonfire and began chanting in a language that I didn’t understand. With each word, the fire burned more brightly until it was a roaring inferno of red and orange, and right at this moment, Ana threw the dagger into the bonfire. Before any of us could react, embers flew into the air as a dagger with a golden blade shot into the air before landing in Ana’s hands again.
“Six ounces,” Ana said to Dr. Heil as she handed over the dagger.
The good doctor smiled reassuringly at me as she carefully marked out the point on my chest to puncture. A cool sensation left goosebumps on my skin as she disinfected the site of incision with alcohol before a sharp pain pierced through my body.
“Gamma!” Dillon’s worried yell was interrupted by my cousin and I saw from the corner of my eyes, how my cousin was holding my loyal warrior back. A rush of power surged through my body even as Dr. Heil collected my blood in a bowl before applying pressure to my wound to help my body heal. The fiery afternoon sun seemed to burn even brighter as Ana’s chants faded into the background.
Are you sure you don’t want a bite?
The unmistakable voice of my mate filled my head and I looked up to see that the afternoon sun had been replaced by the crescent moon and sparkling stars. My beautiful Laila was lying down on the forest ground and staring up at the night sky while munching down on a chocolate bar. For a moment, I was lost in that alluring image and had forgotten what I was supposed to do, until a male voice made me aware that Laila wasn’t alone.
I’m good but we should go inside soon. The sun will rise in a few minutes.
The gentleness of the male vampire’s voice didn’t go unnoticed by me and my blood boiled as I recognized the emotions flashing across his face. He wanted her, he wanted what was rightfully mine! Gower growled menacingly but no one could hear us, and we were like invisible ghosts in the world of the living.
Do you mind giving me a few minutes on my own? I promise that I’ll come back through the tunnel that you showed me right after. I mean you have that ring that’s linked to the mark on the back of my neck, so it’s not like I could run away.
Laila’s words made my heart sink and as she sat up on the ground, an ugly burned mark on the back of her neck became partially visible. They had branded my mate like she was cattle! I would make them pay, if that was the last thing that I did! Anger clouded my senses and it was Gower’s whimpers that brought me back to focus on my task. My mate was now alone, sitting under the star littered sky while she hummed a tune that I didn’t recognize, but it was a tune of hope and anticipation. In a few minutes, I realized why, as a glowing ball of fire slowly climbed up from the horizon even as the crescent moon took its leave.
Just a few minutes, Goddesses, please! Just a few minutes!
My mate’s eyes were closed as she prayed silently under her breath and before the sun had fully risen, she stood up and started heading towards a giant oak tree. She tapped on the tree trunk three times before mumbling something inaudibly and to my surprise, a hollow appeared in the tree and she stepped right into it like Alice going down the rabbit hole. My legs followed her steps closely, afraid to lose sight of my mate and soon the hollow widened into a large tunnel lit up by torchlights. At the end of the tunnel was a green door and just as I was about to follow Laila through the door, everything began spinning.
“Ethan? Ethan, can you hear us? Dr. Heil is trying to stop the bleeding!”
“Gamma? Hang in there!”
Familiar voices echoed louder and louder in my head until I couldn’t ignore them anymore, forcing me to focus my vision until Ana’s face came into view.
“What did you see, Ethan? Where is she?”
