AXEL
I paced around my mansion, the silence pressing on me like a weight.
“Be mine.” Those words still echoed in my head.
“She’s not even our mate, you are still considering making her yours.” Larry, my wolf voice came and I sighed out again frustrated.
“But I couldn't say no to her,” I argued, frustrated.
“So why hesitate now?” he argued.
“I wanted to be sure before tying someone’s life to mine,” I replied irritated.
She wanted me to claim her, to become hers. But how could I trust her? She is the daughter of the man I hated most in this pack, the man who had made it his mission to destroy me.
I am aware of how her family was waiting for the first opportunity to rip the pack from my hands. They had been nothing but a thorn in my side.
So why would I accept his daughter as my mate?
And yet… I had given in, because of those pleading eyes. At that moment, I couldn’t walk away.
I even lied, saying she was my mate because that was the first thought my wolf had whispered to me.
He told me that she was the perfect match for me, even if I couldn’t accept it.
No one had ever approached me freely, not since I was a child. They all thought I was a disaster of an Alpha, the weakest in history.
They weren’t entirely wrong. I had stopped living in the pack house long ago, isolating myself in this mansion just to survive. If I had stayed among them, I would not live to see another sunrise.
And now she wanted me to save her. But why?
Just then I felt a presence behind me. Without turning, I knew who it was.
Simone, my most trusted man, stood behind me. Richard is supposed to be my trusted man but he turned out to be my rival.
He was supposed to be my Beta, yet the pack respected him more than they ever respected me.
They wanted him to lead instead. His father together with Aria’s father had trained him, groomed him, while I was left unprepared, cast aside.
The only reason the pack hadn’t been taken from me already was my bloodline. They couldn’t overthrow me without undeniable proof that I had failed.
“What did you find?” I asked.
He bowed slightly. “No matter how I searched, no one has seen the wolf who saved you. It was the first time anyone witnessed her.”
I drew a deep breath, recalling how she had thrown herself into danger for me.
“Keep searching,” I ordered.
He nodded and turned, but hesitated. “Alpha… isn’t Darwin's daughter waiting for you to claim her as your Luna? Why aren’t you going to her?”
“Her house?” I scoffed. “I don’t even live with them. If I set foot there, I would be walking into a death trap. They have been planning my end for years.”
“I don’t want you going either,” he admitted, “but perhaps you could use her. Her weakness might be the very bait you need.”
I glanced at him, surprised. “A clever thought. I didn’t know you had it in you.”
He smiled faintly, “Turn on their house footage.” I ordered yeah I made sure to hit all my rivals' homes without their notice. How did I do that? Not to know for now.
The lights dimmed as the screen descended. But the images that appeared froze the blood in my veins.
“What the hell…” I muttered.
Her father stood over her, demanding she reject me. She refused, no matter how harsh his words grew.
The next moment, guards dragged her away as she screamed in protest, and not even her family members tried to save her.
My chest tightened and fury roared through me. “Out of my way. I need to save her. We will deal with the rest later.”
Before he could stop me, I stormed out of the mansion, leapt into my car, and sped off.
The moment I arrived at their residence, warriors rushed to block me.
“Alpha Axel ” One began.
My claws elongated, and with a single swipe, I tore out his throat. Blood sprayed, and the others froze in terror.
I strode into the house, where my mother sat wailing, her two children clinging to her.
“Where is she?” I growled.
Mason, the current Gamma, stepped forward, confusion on his face.
“Alpha, why are you here?”
My kick sent him crashing to the ground. “Where is your respect?” he stared at me shocked, well I am always weak and allow them to step on me whenever but not at this moment.
His mother leapt up, rushing toward me. “Please, save her else he will kill her!” she cried out.
I yanked my arm free from her desperate grip, rage burning through me. “You knew what he was doing and said nothing.”
Then she looked down with guilt eating her deep down.
I strolled toward hauled Mason up by the shoulder, my claws digging into his flesh until he gasped in pain.
“Take me to her, or I will tear this arm from your body.” Trembling, he obeyed, leading me down the hall.
What I saw when we arrived turned my stomach. Her father stood over her, and she lay crumpled on the floor, bloodied, barely breathing.
I dashed forward, slamming him aside. My heart stopped as I looked at her pale face.
“What did you do to her?” I demanded, voice trembling with fury.
He smirked. “She is my daughter. You have no right to question me.”
I could see the life draining from her, blood soaking her clothes. If I delayed even a moment, she would die. Scooping her into my arms, I held her against me.
“Where do you think you are going?” he snapped. “I have not accepted you as her mate.”
I turned, meeting his eyes with a cold smirk. “I don’t need your acceptance. The Moon Goddess already made her mine. We will settle this another day.”
With that, I shoved him out of my path, storming from the house and into my car, praying I wasn’t already too late.
