Chapter 9

HARRYS POV: ⠀ I opened my eyes and rubbed them, sitting up to take the foreign surroubdings in. I picked up my phone to check the time, it was 6am, the group had agreed to meet at 7am in the dining area so we could discuss plans for today. I put on some light makeup, styled my hair into loose curls and then got dressed into some grey Nike jogging bottoms and a cute American Apparel crop top. I sighed as I remembered I had to pack uo my stuff, and did so, leaving my room at around 6.55am. ⠀ ⠀ The dining room was buzzing with conversation, our group being the only ones up so early on a Saturday morning. "Good morning bestie" Cheryl cooed, coming and wrapping her arms around me cutely. She definitely got some last night. "Good morning, busy night?" I winked at her, getting a grin in response. "Sure did" she winked, and we both took a seat at the table, I was sitting opposite her and next to Hardin who was cutting the fat off of his bacon and putting it all on a piece of bread with some beans. "Gross" I laughed, and he looked up at me with a smile. He was kind of handsome, with rugged black hair, styled into a skin fade and a scar above his right eyebrow. "Can't say the same about you" he replied. I rolled my eyes at him and picked up my plate, ready to take it over to the buffet and pick some breakfast. I chose pancakes, bacon and some strawberries. The different human foods I loved before turning, that tasted great but no longer fulfilled my needs. Gulping down the delicious breakfast didn't remove the hunger I felt deep inside, like razor blades etching into my throat and intestines. ⠀ ⠀ As all the chatter faded to the car park, I followed and handed out a few blood bags to the rest of the Vamp crew and then jumped inside to indulge into my own. It's soothing cool texture relieving the burning sensation of the hunger, and I sighed as I felt it being submerged. It was a Saturday so we would take a break tomorrow, but we had plenty of work to do before that. ⠀ ⠀ It was 7.45am by the time we were ready to go, and the sun was extra bright in the sky today. I rolled my jogging bottoms up to allow the sun to hit my pale skin, I wouldn't tan but it felt amazing. ⠀ We'd drove by two leads already, one place derelict so the lead could have been false or from a while ago, the other tried to flee but got shot in the ankle by Chase and admitted to being in some trouble with the king due to leading a drug gang in Mystic Creek. He thought that moving out this far would make him immune, but still panicked when he saw a Solider. Guilty conscience, I mumbled when hearing it. This trip opened my eyes to so many wrong doings in the Creek. We drove for another hour before reaching the next lead, they lived in a big wooden building, cornered in by forest. It was neighbouring a few smaller buildings, and I recognised it as werewolf territory. The Vamps would have to sit this one out, leaving it to Conrad and his pack. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ CONRADS POV: As we pulled up, I could see that it was a big pack and I hoped I'd be able to get through to them without needing to use force. A pack going against another pack was a big statement, and a pack teaming up with Vampires to go against another pack was a massive insult. We pulled up the SUVS, and I instructed the others not to get out of the car unless absolutely necessary. If it was, they'd be contacted through the walkie talkies. ⠀ It didn't take long for the Alpha to greet us at the door, and he was fairly old, in his 70's from first assumptions. He had long dark grey locks and an equally long dark grey beard. He had wrinkled eyes and laugh lines on his forehead. "Hello, my name is Conrad. Alpha of the Exousía pack" "Ah, I have heard of you, young wolf" the man replied almost mockingly. I couldn't read this man properly, but right now I could sense some hostility. "Pack to pack, I come to ask of something from you, judgement free" I continued. He was older, and wiser but ultimately weaker as an Alpha and not enough to intimidate me. As if they could read my thoughts, 2 guys, who I could only assume to be a Beta and higher pack member walked out of the open door and stood firmly behind him, causing Cory and John to take position behind me, with Luke, Jack and Paul behind them. ⠀ We knew and sensed there were more wolves inside, but hoped it wouldn't come to that. "That is a bold move, considering you are a stranger" the old man stated, authoritively. "I am owed a favour from the King" I lied. "His disappearance is causing some trouble where we reside in Sapphire Crescent, trouble we would like to stop immediately" The old wolf seemed lost in thought, clearly communicating with his pack via mindlink, something I couldn't master yet. ⠀ My dad died when I was 12, and only just coming into my shifts. He didn't ever get the chance to teach me stuff like that, and I became Alpha and unable to help my men unlock that bind also. "I am Grey, Alpha of Evgenís" "What do you need?" he asked. "I greet you with respect Alpha Grey, and I just need to know what you and your pack were doing around August last year?" I had authority on my voice now, showing I was being serious, but not accusatory. "Well my old brain does not like thinking back that far, 8 months ago things were very different for us also" he said, looking into the distance. "But thinking about it, we were getting ready for winter. Collecting firewood and storing food in the freezers" he began to trail off on the menial house tasks the pack had endured. "Why were you seen in the Creek, most importantly, why were you escorted out of The Dark Kingdom?" that came out a little more accusatory. "You're here because you think we have something to do with the disappearance?" He asked, realising what my words were leading to. "I am following all leads, leaving no corner unturned" I admitted. "How do you have this information?" he asked, furrowing his old tangled eyebrows. "I admit, not in any way that I should know this information, but nonetheless I do" "So to be blunt, Grey, did you and your men have anything to do with this?" He looked at his tallest accomplice, and didn't talk for a moment. ⠀ I knew the Vamps could hear every word through the thick tinted glass of the SUV but it was all easier on me not having to repeat the conversation. I just hoped none of them got impatient. "Our pack had nothing to do with it, and we would not like to be associated with this again" he concluded, turning on his heel. "And you were escorted away from the King in July for what reason?" I repeated. "That is none of your business young wolf" I let out a piercings growl, my pack getting into position behind me in retaliation to Greys men now stood infront of him. They knew he was not able to fight like he was previously able to. The ability to heal did not stop us from withering with old age. "I do not want a fight here Grey, so if you have nothing to hide from me please be honest so that we can leave this here and move on with our search" I paused, met with silence. "I just want to know what made you a person of interest in the first place" There was another bout of silence. "May I repeat, I do not want this quarrel with you or your pack, we are respectable wolves and only wan-" "He refused to help me, financially" He cut me off. "We needed money, and knew he was a generous man, but he refused. His generosity only spreading to humans and his own kind" he spat. "For that, I wish him great pain" "Now leave me, you have taken enough pride from me, I deserve peace for my honesty" ⠀ I nodded at him, and he turned on his heel, pausing when I spoke. "Thankyou... for telling me, I know that wasn't easy for yo-" "Please, do not insult me further with your pitty" he spoke with pure hurt in his voice. "I'm sorry, it was not pity, genuinely. I understand the discrimination, I have lived under his realm for many years learning, failing, and overcoming the mistreatment. I lost my parents and became Alpha at a young age and I know from experience about needing his help but being refused based on what you are" He lifted his head, and turned to look me deep in the eye. "You are Andrew and Lorettas son?" the glint in his eye showing he knew them, and well enough to hold some emotional connection. "Yes, you knew them?" "I did" he nodded, "they were extraordinary people" he smiled. I felt my eyes watering slightly, but abruptly remembered the others listening in and cleared my throat. "Please, do not hesitate to reach out to Sapphire Crescent if you need anything in the coming winter months, I am not a wealthy man, but I will offer support in any way I can" I pleaded. He placed a hand on my shoulder, with glistening eyes and a bright smile. "Your parents would would been proud of you, young wolf" and with that, he walked inside the house and his men followed. ⠀ I made way to the SUV with my guys, and once we were strapped in, we took off on the road toward the next hotel. It was a silent journey, as the thoughts of my mother and father flashed before me and I embraced my memories again. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ HARRYS POV: ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Pulling up to the hotel, I admired its size. It had 12 floors, and big show lights pointing up into the evening sky, making it more obvious that the sun would be setting soon. The windows looked out onto the lake opposite which was beginning to glow under the street lights and I could see happy couples hand in hand, walking alongside it. I parked the BMW up and took a couple of blood bags out and hid them inside of my purse. It was 8pm now and we were all hungry, I was looking forward to a long shower and some fresh clothes. We were taking the day off tomorrow and this little town was perfect to go shopping and enjoy the day, to relieve our minds from the stress of the past couple of days. Lucas had searched the area on Google maps and pinned some local stores to visit and things to do to keep all 17 of us entertained. ⠀ "Hey you ready to go up?" I asked Cheryl, who was texting. "Yeah.. my mom is going crazy with the messages" "Ugh, moms" I laughed, "mine is messaging daily too". "Maybe it's because I'm supposed to be grounded, she just keeps on at me" she sighed. "Let's go let our hair down, she'll still be there messaging in the morning" I winked. We got our bags and went up to the room, Cheryl was going to stay with me tonight. With music playing, and me and Cheryl sharing a bottle of red wine infused with deer, we got our makeup done and danced around in our underwear. After a good 30 minutes we decided to get dressed in matching but different coloured Dannijo slip dresses and headed down to the boys to continue our night.
