I jump on the rogue and bite into his throat ripping out his trachea, spitting it to the side while running to help Kyle, who rode in the car with me here, I run hard and fast shifting mid air crashing my body into the rogue running at Kyle, reaching for the rogues head and twisting it I snap his neck to knock him out cold.

“Kyle get James and take this one to the cells, chain him up and question him.” Looking at Kyle still in his wolf form. I wouldn’t want to be him when Kyle gets started I swear that guy has too much fun torturing someone.

Standing there naked I look around to make sure we are in the clear. Kyle and James take the rogue away. I mind link Penny.

I cut the link and make my way towards the lake. Getting closer and walking towards one of the trees to get me shorts I can hear Nikki’s voice explaining the story of this place, walking faster to get closer and there she is, standing on the balcony with Nikki, so beautiful and innocent, seeing her arm in the sling and the gauze pad covering her injured head pisses me off.

Remembering how I found her and the look she gave me in the room at the clinic shattered me. My wolf and I have been restless ever since, we just want her, we want our mate. I want to get close to her but Penny keeps saying no. Nikki says he’s trying to help her to be able to face me without freaking out. She doesn’t know how much of an effect she has on me, it drives me crazy. But my wolf and I have to be patient and win her love.

Watching her admire the view, I want jump up on that balcony to enjoy it with her. I can’t wait any longer,

I didn’t get to finish cursing to Nik, I was half way through my sentence when he decided to walk away and there she was just standing there not running away but looking straight at me giving me a shy . I can’t help but be entranced by her beauty.

“Thank you.” She says in a soft and turns to follow Nik. Damn she’s going to be the death of me.

Standing there still looking at the empty balcony wishing she would come back, she doesn’t know how much I needed that little interaction with her, it’s given me a boost of energy and I’m feeling like I’m on cloud nine. If there was a time I wanted to skip, now was time. Keeping the image of her waving and saying thank you has been engraved in my mind and it definitely has been stored also in my heart. It feels unreal I’ve found my mate, my one and only, matched by the moon goddess herself.

Finally accepting the fact that she’s not coming back to the balcony anytime soon I make my way to Penny.

For the next hour we run the perimeter, sniffing around if we can pick up any other scent, specifically Dane, but we don’t find anything other than the scent of rogues.

Mase can you smell that? There’s more rogues but they’re gone for now.

Yeah, their smell is faint now. How many did you guys kill?

There was five total. Four dead and the other got away.

This attack couldn’t have been planned by Dane, he doesn’t know about this location.

YET… that one that got away is probably telling him right now but who knows.

Instructing the others to circle the perimeter one more time, we're about to do the same also when Nik’s mind link comes through.

It’s Kali she’s not well.

Penny and I don’t wait one second and sprint as fast as we could.

Fck what happened? I saw her on the balcony two hour ago and she was looking fine.

I mind link the others to keep an eye on the boarder and to do a perimeter check every hour. It can’t be a coincidence that we just arrived and we already have a rogue attack, Dane couldn’t have sent them this quick he doesn’t know of this location, things aren’t adding up.

Penny and I split once we are closer to the house, she taking the lounge entrance and I through the dormitory. Running to my dorm room to put some clothes on before sprinting up stairs. I’m half way up the stairs and Penny is running across the hall from her room to Kali’s and entering it with me close behind.

Kali is laying there shivering and I’m baffled how quickly she went from being fine an hour ago to this. Standing in the corner watching Penny keep her talking, I envy Penny, her name is the first name she calls, she always wants her close, it makes me jealous of her. Just watching her shiver it takes everything in me to not jump to her side and wrap her in my arms to keep her warm. Wondering how this happened I glare at Nik who is offended about some movie actor she mentioned.

What the hell happened? She was fine when I saw her on the balcony.

We were racing up to the room and this happened.

He doesn’t reply but flips me off behind his back. If it wasn’t for Kali being in this state, Nik and I would be rolling on the floor right now wrestling with me kicking his ass, which is what I really want to do right now to teach him a lesson.

Doc comes in and sits on the bed next to Kali, I have to control my wolf from losing it reminding myself that he’s doing his job and resort to a low growl that makes Penny stare at me, I ignore her stare and keep my gaze on Kali. Silently watching and waiting for doc to finish his physical examination on Kali.

Doc finishes and walks over to me leaving Nik to attend to Kali. She looks better again.

“Thanks Doc for coming at such short notice, how is she?”

“No worries Mason I’m just glad I was close by. Kali’s blood pressure, temperature were normal, I couldn’t hear…”

“Penny” Kali calls out.

“Doc what’s happening? She’s burning up!” Penny says in a hard tone.

Doc makes a phone call discussing Kali’s symptoms and I can see the confusion on his face.

My eyes leave him to focus on Kali, I’m on my last thread of patience watching her cry in pain, it’s hard hearing and seeing her cry and not be able to comfort her. I have to close my eyes to refuse the urge from jumping on the bed. Eyes closed I focus so hard like my life depended it, she calls my name and all my focus lost instantly, I moved so fast it was as if I had transported. Touching her hand gave me a shock like a thunderbolt struck me making me lose my balance. Without letting go of her hand I quickly steady myself and climb into the bed next to her.

“Mase…” Penny tries to stop me, I growl at her making her step back and leaving me to be with my mate.

My mate called for me, she needs me, I’m here now mate. Looking at her perfect angelic face, brushing her soft brown wavy hair pulled into a pony tail, like a man on drugs happy to welcome his fix, no one will be able to separate me from her. Holding her hand and raising it to my cheek, I’m brought back to reality, putting her hand back on my cheek my eyes go from being haze to confusion to panic,

“Sh.. Sh… She’s cold” with confusion set in my set on my face “Doc? Why is she cold?”

Penny and the Doc come back to her side

“Kali… Kali… Kali…” calling out to her fearing my mate leaving me “Kali… wake up beautiful… I’m here… I’m here…”

Doc and Penny come closer and I pull her into my arms not wanting anyone near her, cradling her and swaying back and forth like a mad man with Kali limp in my arms.

“Mase…” Penny tries to reach for Kali, I retreat further to the other side of the bed hauling Kali with me.

“Mase…” Nik carefully places his hand on my shoulder looking at me with sadness and concern in his eyes “We need to let Doc have another look at her.”

Nik squeezes my shoulder not breaking eye contact, confused and distraught, tears escape my eyes. Looking down at Kali I pull her in closer and tighter to my chest, holding her there I inhale her scent, mmmm lavender, so sweet and intoxicating, calming me instantly and bringing me to my senses, inhaling one more time and taking as much of her scent I can and fill my lungs, giving her a kiss on the forehead before slowly releasing her.

Penny takes Kali into her arms hugging her tightly and whispers into her ear,

“Wherever you are kid, come back, come back to us..." she pauses and looks at Kali with sorrowful eyes "come back to your mate.” A tear rolls down her face before she gently lays Kali on the bed. Looking at her one more time “May moon goddess look after you and bring you back.” Then gets up and leaves the room without saying another word.
