Mase Doc is here to do his check up on Kali. I asked Sharon to ask him to wait downstairs for you. Are you coming?

I’m coming I’ll be there soon, ask Sharon to make him a cuppa while he waits.

Attention back on Penny again, I feel really bad that I have to cut this moment and save it for another time. Looking at her feeling guilty.

“Penny, I’m so sorry and I’ll make it up to you, can we continue this after Kali’s check up? I forgot to tell you that she’s ok, so try not to worry about her, I know Kali is fighting to come back to us."

Giving me a quick hug then stepping away looking awkwardly embarrassed for some reason.

“No need. I feel better already. Let’s go back.”

Watching Penny starts walking back in the direction of the house, wiping her face and obviously trying to get herself together again. I know she is putting on an act, but I know Penny will just deny it and say everything is ok and put on her tough girl act. I let her be and catch up to join her on the walk back.

On our walk back, updating her on the rogues attempts and discussing plans. If there is anyone as capable of leading an army of wolves other than myself, it is Penny. Not one person in this camp has had their ass beat by her.

Entering the front door of the house, I meet with Doc who is waiting in the lounge area.

“Morning Doc, I wasn’t expecting you this early. I hope you didn’t wait too long.”

“No it’s fine. I start at eleven so I thought I would come by and check on Ms Smith.”

Penny walks into the lounge, addresses doc and continues walking towards the exit of the lounge.

“Penny you not coming up to see Kali?” I raise an eyebrow.

“Another time. I want to check in with the others.”

Not wanting to force her, I don’t say anything and let her leave and my attention back to doc and proceed take him upstairs to see Kali.

Entering the room Nik is still laying in bed with his eye mask covering his eyes, clearly he hasn’t gotten out of bed.

Nik why are you still in your pyjamas?

You want me to leave her alone? Now that you’re here I can go.

Taking off his eye mask and rolling his eyes. He gets out of bed slips his slippers on and hugs his kimono around his torso while exiting the room.

“Sorry about that doc. Let me get some light into this room while you check Kali over.”

Doc makes his way over to Kali while I get the control to open the roller blinds before heading back to where Kali is.

Watching doc examine Kali he doesn’t give away any positive nor negative indications of Kali’s current state. I don’t interrupt him and just wait for him to finish.

“Ok good news, Ms Smith is doing fine physically from what I have seen. Her vitals are normal and stable.”

“the bad?”

“No not bad, we still don’t have any answers for her blood samples, so hopefully we are able to find something soon.”

“ok thanks doc.”

He gives a slight nod and leaves the room.

Sitting on the bed next to my mate, looking at her and giving her kiss on the forehead,

“I hope you can hear me. Penny’s not taking it well, she needs you right now” Holding her hand and giving it soft kisses.

Nik comes back into the room no longer in his pyjamas and visibly had a shower. I give Kali’s hand one more kiss before setting it down beside her. I borrow Nik's phone to ring dad. Stepping out on the balcony to chat with my dad.

“Nik..”

“Dad, it’s Mase. How are things there?”

“Hey son! Since yesterday’s rogue attack, nothing, other than that everything seems back to normal.”

“no rogues last night?”

“No son. Why do you ask?” now with a curious tone.

Giving him an update of everything that has happened since we arrived, the rogues that attacked, the prisoned rogue wolf and his sudden weird behaviour, what Kyle and his night crew experienced with the rogues and what happened with Kali and Danes involvement.

“Using rogues to toy with us just to get to Kali, you think Dane would go that far and also band together with rogues?”

“Don’t underestimate him. He won’t fight fair and will use every dirty trick in the book. I wouldn’t put it past Dane to band with the rogues just to get to your mate.”

“If Dane will go that far I think we should tighten on patrolling the boarders.”

“I have doubled the watch on the south boarder, you have the west and I in the north. So far there hasn’t been any activity in the South.”

So it’s only here where there is activity. Now convinced that Dane is coordinating with these rogues makes me more annoyed that he is obviously going after my mate.

“Son, I have a meeting to attend to in a few minutes. If you need anything let me know and son… don’t worry we will keep your mate safe.”

“thanks dad.”

Before dad hangs up I can hear my mum saying something in the background to my dad.

“Son. Your mother will be over at lunch… good luck... Ouch! Sorry darling…” with his voice trailing off before the call ends.

Walking back into the room lightly laughing at my dad teasing his mum, I can picture her smacking him and making him feel bad so he can beg for her forgiveness.

“Dad teasing mum again?” Still looking at his laptop.

“yeah, you know him, likes to get her all riled up.” Throwing his phone on the bed next to him. “She’ll be here soon for lunch.”

“Well at least we’ll only be getting told off for not visiting as much as we should and now that you have your mate she can leave you alone now about giving her some grandbabies”

That is true. I’ve been busy with police duties, training new recruits for the police force and trying to start a police force academy and also my pack duties. Nik sees dad more since he works with dad at the family company and has been busy with building a company office here so he and dad don’t have to travel to the city so much.

With my mum coming for lunch I need to start arranging for the young wolves training sessions to be relocated here, knowing her she would probably remind me that I will still need to remember my pack duties.

“I’ll be back beautiful.” Giving her a kiss on the forehead.

I hate leaving my mate. I want to be there when she wakes up but I know I have to make sure that while she is sleeping she is safe and when she wakes up that she can feel that security here with me.

Heading back down to the dormitory level and to the gym, perfect the people I was hoping to find around here. Penny is there training with Mike and Brett, well more like kicking their backsides. Standing there watching in amusement at the torture she’s giving them and the poor dudes looking like they have had enough but Penny is relentless and makes them get up for another round of ass kicking.

Penny bobs and weaves Mike’s punches and gives him an uppercut dazing him and grabbing his arm to flip him on his back just in time to avoid a round house kick from Brett, she releases Mike’s arm to sweep Brett’s leg bringing him down hard on the mat, again Penny moves quickly to put Brett in a arm bar lock that makes him tap right.

Laughing at the display in front of me with Mike lying there as if he is dead and not wanting anymore and Brett stuck in a arm bar lock tapping her arm.

Penny doesn’t release Brett’s arm and Brett is tapping her arm frantically, with a look in her eyes that she is not going to release making me run over to stop her.

“Penny! Let him go you’re going to break his arm!”

She releases and gets up walking to the where her things are to have a drink of water, not looking back to check on Brett. Looking down at Brett and Mike who are slowly getting up on their feet, I nod for them to leave.

“We’re not done boys come back.” Penny demands, stopping the boys from leaving.

“They are done for today. I have something else for them to do.”

“I’m not done with training!”

“Then let’s train. Mum is on her way so this needs to be quick.”

Putting her water bottle down she grabs her phone and walks towards the door.

“Penny! Where are you going? Let’s train and then go up to meet with mum and see Kali.”

“Sorry, I think I want to go for a run now. Please send your mum my apologies and let her know I’m busy on the boarder.”

Running out the door and into the woods, shifting and shredding her clothes in the process. I knew she wasn’t ok and that it was all an act. Not sure of what I’m going to do with Penny but I can’t keep chasing her right now especially with mum on her way.

Turning back to Mike and Brett who are sitting on a bench near the door I just walked through, noticeably still in pain from Penny’s brutal training session.

“I need you two to go into town. Let all the young wolves know that training sessions will now be held here. No training today but as of tomorrow to be here in the afternoon everyday after school.”

“Yes boss. Is there anything else you want us to do while in town?”

“No that is all.”

They both nod and leave.

Stepping out of the gym and standing on the top step looking out at the trees where I last saw Penny disappeared behind them.

Sighing hoping that this will pass. It’s only been one day and already I feel like I’m juggling the world. Now that I have found my mate it’s only a matter of time before my dad steps down as alpha and passes it on to me and at this moment right now I don’t feel ready. Lost in thought I am interrupted by a mind link from my mother.

Where are my boys, come give this old lady a kiss and hug. She misses her children.

I rush up stairs forgetting my worries and replacing it with a happy smile and quickly walk towards my mother who is standing in the middle of the lounge room with her arms out ready to embrace me.

Hugging my mum like a little boy, I needed this right now, no matter how old I get I’m still a boy when she’s around and then she reminds me quickly that these moment also don’t last long. Lightly laughing, I’m ducking and using my hands to cover my body from hit little smacks.

“Why have you not made any time to come and visit your mother?” another slap on the shoulder “not even a phone call in a month!” another smack on the butt.

She keeps badgering me with questions and giving me light smacks for a few seconds before giving me another big hug.

“Now take me to see your mate since your brother can’t come down to see me.”

Leading the way to the room my mother is looking at everything we pass, I forgot she hasn’t seen the house yet. We get to the top of the stairs.

“oh moon goddess the ceiling of this hallway is absolutely gorgeous! I might need to tell your father I want the same thing!” she giggles.

We continue to the room while she’s still admiring the glass ceiling. I reach for the door but Nik opens before me and screeching.

“Mummy!” and pulls her in for a hug.

She hugs him then starts giving him the same treatment of light smacks and questions laughing at Nik doing exactly the same thing as me and apologising till she stops.

“Now let me look at you both.” She steps back scanning our bodies and checking us like we are little boys again. “Oh my babies are grown.” Giving us another hug “now show me your mate.”

Nik moves to let her enter the room. She approaches Kali looking down at her.
