Walking out the room I look down the long hall to the opposite door facing us,

“Who’s in that room?”

“That’s Penny’s room.”

“Oh yay her room is close. Let’s go see her!” excited I grab Nikki by the hand to drag him there but he stops me.

“she’s probably not there. Usually when there is pack business she is dedicated. She won’t rest till we are in the clear.”

Staring at the door of Penny’s room and frowning, a bit sad that we just arrived and she is already gone. I haven’t had a chance to speak to her about yesterday. I feel like I need to apologize for contacting Mason to help her, she obviously didn’t want his help if she made the others not say anything.

“Ok. Let’s go find some food and then explore the rest of this house!”

Reaching the bottom of the stairs, the smell in the air is mouth watering you could close your eyes and let your nose lead you to it, with my nose in the air and inhaling the savory smell my tummy rumbles upset at me for taking my time, I grab Nikki’s hand and quicken my steps,

“Ummm missy…” looking back at Nikki stopping “…the kitchen is that way” pointing and grinning at me.

“Sorry I had a terrible tour guide.” I tease and laugh.

Nikki rolls his eyes and hauls me in the right direction. The closer we get to the kitchen the smell gets stronger.

Stepping into the kitchen my tummy rumbles louder, Nikki looks at me and we both laugh. Mike and Brett are already sitting at the counter eating. A middle aged lady comes walking out from the pantry smiling at us, realizing who it is I smile in return,

“Sharon? From the café in town?” I ask her.

“Ahhh you remember! Yes that’s me!”

“Oh nice! You’ve already met. Sharon is our cook and has been the pack cook for years, and may I add the best cook in town.” He smiles and winks at Sharon who does a light laugh.

“Are you?” I curiously ask.

“Yes, however my wolf and I are in retirement. I let her out every once in a while to keep the old bones moving. I won’t die laying down.” Giving me a smile.

“Ummm Sharon…sorry I didn’t finish my meal that day, I hope you didn’t take offense to it. It was honestly yummy, I just ended up losing my appetite” Apologising for the day Dane interrupted my meal.

“Oh don’t worry about it, I understood why. Well now that I’m here I can make it for you tomorrow for lunch!

So excited I get to eat her yummy croissant again and in peace.

“Thank you! Yum I can’t wait!” squealing in excitement.

“Ok eat up before these three here eat it everything.” Looking at Mike, Brett and Nikki who has joined them with filled plates eating as if the food is going to run away.

I fill my plate with a tuna sandwich, cheesy muffin and two sausage rolls and sit on the stool next to Nikki. My first bite into the sausage roll I moan in satisfaction. Nikki and the boys laugh as I moan every time I take a bite.

“Good huh?” Nikki asks and laughs.

“mmm mmmhhhmmm…” is all I can reply with.

I finish my plate and Sharon hands me a glass of juice to wash down my food. I get up to wash my plate and Sharon takes it off me and motions for me to leave it to her, Nikki grabs my hand to drag me away, looking back at Sharon I thank her for the delicious lunch.

Nikki leads me to a stair case that is on the opposite side of the house from my room, it goes down to another floor.

“Looks like a university dormitory,” looking into the open rooms as we pass them. All having bunk beds and a big closet in each room “so who is supposed to stay in these rooms? Looks like only a few have been used and there’s so many”

“Not many know about this house yet, only a hand full and that hand full are the only ones at the moment that patrol these boarders. My parents wanted to build my brother and I our own homes, but at the moment I’m not about that life and would prefer to stay in town and blah blah blah I’ll tell you that story another time.. so this house my parents had it built for Mase…”

“this is Mason’s house?” I interrupt.

“Yes! Keep up cookie brain.” I give him a slap on the arm for calling me a cookie brain, whatever that means, before he continues. “So my parents had it built for Mase for when he becomes the Alpha...”

“He’s not the Alpha?” I interrupt again.

“I swear girl if you interrupt me again I’m gonna bury you for real.” Acting all dramatic, I put my hands up in surrender and let him continue. “Yes this is his house and No he is not alpha ‘YET’ I suggested this floor to him cause I have my own plans in mind for this town. This is the front lines and training grounds for protecting our town. I want to make sure that when they are away from their families they are taken care of. Every wolf that is on duty will have a place to rest, kind of like 'home away from home' so when they go home to their families, they are well rested and family time is family time. When duty calls and there is war these rooms will be filled with wolves ready to defend like an army. There’s going to be other Alphas that are going to want this place and I’m going to try and stay one step ahead of them. I also hope that what we are building here will attract other good wolves stuck with asshole alpha’s, that they find this place a safe haven and future home, a new start in life and that we can protect and provide for them also. I want our clan to grow and be strong but also for Seaville to have both werewolves and humans coexist. But it’s a work in progress at the moment."

“I love the idea, and here I was thinking you were only a Queen of the night lights.” Teasing him, I’m laughing and watching him dramatically act all offended.

“You ain’t seen nothing yet girl.” Next thing I see is he’s dancing to an invisible beat, walking sassily up the corridor with each arm stretched out and alternating to the beat, moving up and down, and as if their was a crowd he starts cheering himself “Ayy…ayy…ayy…” he says keeping the rhythm going with his steps and arms “ayy…ayyy…AHHHH.” On the last ahhhh he does a death drop. I clap impressed with his dance, he gets up and takes a dramatic bow “Madonna ain’t got nothing on this Queen of Voguing.” he whips his pretend hair we both laugh and continue with our tour.

Turning down another corridor with more rooms, and at the end of the hall a large gym room with three large mats, middle mat coloured red and the other two white, along all the walls are punching bags, weights and some exercise machines. A little excited to see this room I want like to definitely learn some moves. There's another large area that is the lounge room and a kitchen that has everything. There’s a heavily locked door but Nikki walks right past it like it isn’t there.

“What’s this door?”

“You don’t want to know.”

“I do, pleeeaase.” Giving him the puppy eyes and a pout. He rolls his eyes at me.

“It’s where we lock the prisoners, wolf prisoners.” He replies with a bored expression.

“Oh ok. I thought it might be something surprising.”

“Hmm yeah… surprise, we’re gonna lock you up in our club and make you dance till you tell us the truth.” Looking at me while acting out the words. “look, we are werewolves, our world isn’t like the humans where you do something bad, get locked up and have to wait for your trial to prove your innocence or await your sentencing. Our kind are born killers, how we deal with our kind can be quite barbaric, that’s how a human would see it but for us it’s the opposite, cause it’s not easy killing a werewolf especially with our healing ability. You’re now in our world and there will most probably be a lot of things that you will disagree with but it’s been set in stone for centuries.” I nod in reply after his explanation. “anyways, let’s go watch a movie to kill time. You’re hosting this time in your room!” he quickly says and runs off and I follow suit.

Like kids, laughing loudly and running through the house zooming past Sharon in the kitchen, through the lounge where the boys are watching a game and up the stairs. I’m literally out of breath and slow down half way up the stairs huffing and puffing and quickly feeling a shortness of breath and my chest becoming a little tight, next thing I’m gripping the rail of the stairs calling Nikki who’s stopped laughing and comes running back down the stairs to me grabbing my hand that’s gripping the rail to put around his shoulder for support.

“Oh moon goddess Penny and Mase are gonna kick my ass.”

“Nikki, I don’t feel so well, everything is spinning.”

“Oh s**t! I’m dead meat for real.” He picks me up bridal style while calling out to the boys “Brett, Mike, someone call the doc.” Carrying me to my room he lays me on the bed “girl your starting to burn up, we need to get you out of this hoodie to cool you down.” He carefully removes my hoodie and gently places my head back on the pillow “wow another thing I’ve done before my brother, and I’m gay” Lightly laughing to himself “ok girl, don’t you worry, we’ll take care of you, just stay awake ok. I guess that was too much activity after you just got discharged today.” Mike and Brett come running into the room “someone get me a cold wet cloth.”

I’m feeling cold and just want to close my eyes but Nikki is still encouraging me to stay awake. I feel something cold on my forehead and start to shiver. Suddenly my breathing is back to normal and my chest is no longer tight.

“Penny.” I say through chattering teeth.

“Don’t worry she’s almost here.” Nikki replies.

Ten minutes or so, I hear her voice giving out orders I look towards the door and see her coming towards me.

“someone close that sliding door, it cold in here.” Grabbing my hand and squeezing it, a tear rolls down my cheek “Kid I’m here, the doctor is on his way.”

Someone else walks into the room but I didn’t get to see who it was.

“Look at me kid and focus on me.” I nod and focus on her “You’re doing good and just remember, you are strong, you will get better” I give her a smile at her encouraging words, she squeezes my hand, gets up to leave “I’ll be back in a sec.”

“Penny…please…stay.” More tears rolling down the side of my face.

“of course kid, I’m here and not going anywhere.” She sits back on the bed next to me “Nikki told me it was your turn to host the movie party?” I nod in reply to her question “what movie were you going to watch?”

“Troy…and…then…legends of…the…fall.”

“HA! Didn’t know you were a Brad Pitt fan.” Nikki says out loud “seems like you like older men.” He laughs, I hear someone scoff in the background.

“Is he your celebrity crush?” I shake my head no in reply to Penny.

“OH! You were gonna make me watch an old man movie! Oh well anyways we still gonna watch it when you are better, he is pretty hot in Troy.” Nikki says while throwing his hands up in the air.

“Kali the doctor just arrived. He’ll be here any sec now. Just stay awake a little longer and then you can rest. Ok?” I nod in reply to Penny.

Not long after she says that the doctor walks, smiling at me, it’s Dr.Cheng from the clinic, he swaps spots with Penny, and starts his physical examination on me.

“You remember me Miss Smith?” I nod yes “good. I’m going to check you over. When I ask you a question either nod or shake your head ok?” I nod in reply hoping everything is going to be fine “I’m just going to check your temperature.”

He puts the thermometer in my ear, it beeps, he takes it out to have a look it, watching his facial expressions to see if it is good or bad but he doesn’t give anything away,

“Hmmmm..” is all he says and puts it back in my ear “have you had anything to eat Miss Smith?” I nod, the thermometer beeps, he looks at it then puts it away. He places each of his hands under my jawline and softly pushes inwardly then down neck. “Miss Smith if you could sit up for me please,” still shivering I sit up as requested “if you could take in deep breaths, in through the nose and out through the mouth, I’m going to listen to your lungs.” He gets out his stethoscope, puts it in his ear and the other end on my chest “so you felt puffed after a little run and then dizzy?” I nod while continuing to take deep breaths.

He puts the stethoscope on my back and continues listening to my breathing. I’m no longer shivering or feeling cold anymore, in fact I feel fine. Dr.Cheng takes my blood pressure then instructs me to lay back and rest, he steps away to talk to the others.

Nikki moves to my side replacing the doctor and helps me get comfortable but repositioning the pillows and covering my legs with a throw blanket. Feeling comfortable and better there’s a sudden heat growing within and it’s making me uncomfortable, it keeps growing and growing quickly and starting to spread throughout my body making me uncomfortably hot. Noticing my discomfort Nikki grabs my hand, looking a little stumped he touches my forehead,

"Doc, what's happening?" Nikki asks, but the doctor is still chatting to the others.

With the heat still building and spreading, I'm now unable to sit still, with eyes now welled with tears I can feel they are about to fall any second. Unsure of how long this is going to last, it's scaring me.

“Penny!” I call out to her. She comes to my side again touching my forehead.

“Doc what’s happening? She’s burning up again!”

It’s getting hotter and my head feels like it is about to explode like a volcano. Closing my eyes trying to focus on calming myself it helps a little but not for long. I can feel the energy leaving my body and leaving me weak. Unable to handle the pain I give my last bit of energy to call out.

“MASON!” the bit of my energy used to call out his name for the first time wanting him near me, and just as he touches my hand, everything goes dark. No heat. No chills. No pain. Just laying in the darkness, floating.

Huh? I’m back in the green forest I was in yesterday. Taking the same path I did yesterday I pass through the green curtain of hanging plants. Looking around to find her again, crossing the stepping stones, I look up to see if I can see her in the room built on the tree, no one there, she’s not in her garden nor in waterfall. I follow the stream from the waterfall, it leads me past the garden we sat in yesterday, following it around the corner and behind big boulder’s of rocks, standing there in a field patting two white exquisite horse’s.

“Kali you shouldn’t be here this early, it’s too soon.” Turning to face me with a sad looking face.

“I don’t know what was happening to me, I wasn’t feeling well and then my body felt like it was burning from the inside out and then nothing, just darkness and then I’m back here.”

“it is the power…”
