I think I spent a long time in the shower longer than I should have, just couldn’t stop thinking of what the she wolf confirmed, that Dane is after my mate, it repeats over and over in my head making me more furious and more determined to protect my mate. I’m snapped out of my thoughts when Nik knocks on the door.

“Bro when your finished, Sharon and Penny can take care of Kali… and bro you might want to think happy thoughts cause I can feel your alpha aura coming in waves through the wall.”

Oh damn I didn’t realize I was doing that. I quickly finish up and get changed and come out of the closet meeting Sharon and Penny. I give Penny a light tap on the shoulder getting her attention. She was just standing there staring at Kali like a statue.

You going to be ok? I can ask one of the other she wolves downstairs to help Sharon.

She nods her head unconvincingly and takes a step closer to Kali. I’ve never seen her like this before, she’s been through some tough times but never has anyone had this effect on Penny. It’s also the first time Penny isn’t too keen on sharing her thoughts and feelings with me.

“Will you be staying to help Mason?”

“No Sharon, I will be waiting outside in the hallway.” Answering Sharon but still looking at Penny but she doesn’t pay attention to my stares.

Nik and I leave the room closing the door behind us. I stop just outside the door while Nik walks towards his room and stopping at the door way.

“They are going to be a little while.” And walks into his room.

I stand there for a little while, hands in my pockets, looking at the door, then at the wall, then at the glass ceiling window.

“Mmmm yeah nice sky and wall aye, how’s the conversation?” Nik calls sarcastically from his room like he knew exactly what I was doing making me give up and go to his room and plonking on the bed.

Nik stands in front of the window stretching his arms and back. Typical Nik, styling his room like royalty.

“Ugh! I didn’t realize how long I’ve been on that damn laptop. Dad’s got me working like crazy since he found out I’m babysitting your mate.” I just smirk while laying there “Anyways, how is Penny? Did she say anything to you earlier?”

“No. Not exactly. I still don’t understand. But I just let her cry on my shoulder.”

“Poor Penny. I say give her some space to let her process whatever she’s going through.” He plonks on the bed beside me. “On another note, congrats on unlocking your alpha aura it got me a little skittish, what happened out there that got you that worked up?”

“The rogue confirmed that Dane wants Kali.” The thought making me angry again.

“Hey easy on the aura, lucky I have alpha blood too or I would have wet my pants,” He laughs out loud “but it doesn’t mean I can’t feel it, you’re obviously getting stronger, definitely Kali is the reason for it. It won’t be long till you take over the pack.”

“Yeah not looking forward to it. If I don’t have Kali by my side what kind of Alpha would I be. The town needs…”. Nik cuts me off.

“oh shut up Mase! Stop thinking negatively… she’ll come back, have a little faith. Just keep trying what mum told you to do and if it doesn’t work at least you tried but don’t give up already.”

Laying there listening to Nik give me a little telling off then talking about the work dad has him doing for the company, my mind zones off and it’s filled with Kali’s beautiful face, closing my eyes enjoying the images, of her holding the flowers outside the clinic, her beautiful sleeping face, her scent…

“Mase wake up. They’re done. Thanks for lending an ear.” He rolls his eyes

Oh s**t I didn’t realize I dozed off. Quickly getting off the bed and going to Kali. She looks beautiful as always but even more beautiful with her dark blonde wavy hair now let out and brushed to the sides of her head and resting on her chest.

Touching her face I’m tempted to plant a kiss on her lips but end up giving her one on the cheek. Damn this girl, she’s definitely going to be the death of me, it’s going to take everything in me to not take her right away when she wakes up.

Unintentionally my mind starts to run away with thoughts of her, I’m thinking of her body, what it will be like to touch her, to kiss every inch, I’m looking at the opening of her pyjama top, I can’t help myself and bury my face in the crook of her neck inhaling her scent to fill my insides, it doesn’t help but makes it worst and I can feel myself stiffen below, oh for fck sakes I need a cold shower.

“NIK!!!” yelling like my life depended on it.

He comes running in with a worried look on his face, looking at Kali and then at me, I rush into the closet and throw myself in the shower turning it on full blast on cold, just standing there in my clothes. She’s in a fcken coma and I’m a wreck over her. I stand in the shower for a while till I feel like I’m myself again. Feeling better I peel off the wet clothes and dry myself off and get dressed.

Walking back into the room towards the loveseat to avoid Kali, Nik is back on the bed with his laptop looking at it like he’s trying to contain himself, I already know he’s going to tease me for it and I throw a cushion at him, he let’s out a roar of laughter holding his stomach.

“Shut up Nik!”

“I can’t wait to see what you’re gonna be like when she wakes up!” rolling around on the bed laughing.

“Shut up Nik!” throwing another cushion at him.

He faces Kali and pretends like she’s awake.

“Girrrrrl, I hope you have enough money to pay for the water bill, because mister over there is going to use A LOT of it!” cackling like a crazy person.

“Shut up Nik!”

“Bro, you’re in trouble once she’s awake!” still laughing uncontrollably “Damn I wish I took a photo of your face before you ran into the closet, it was priceless! You look like you were in so much pain!” still laughing at me.

“s**t, I am in trouble aren’t I.”

Nik calms down and lays on his tummy facing me.

“Mmm hmmm… I hope you’re up for the challenge bro. Just remember she’s a human and can back out anytime she wants. I don’t want to see you heart broken.”

Leaning back on the arm of the loveseat just thinking. I would die if she walked away from me. Wolves in the past have literally gone crazy or died from their human fated mates leaving them. When we feel the bond and that pull there is nothing else but them but it is a one way street. The humans don’t feel that bond or pull or even the spark, its all emotions and feelings. Anything can get in the way of the relationship succeeding, first of all the pack duties, second the way we love might be too much and overbearing, or three they might be in love with someone else. I just hope and pray that Kali and I don’t suffer from any of those.

“Bro I’m going to sleep on the couch tonight can sleep here too?”

“Sure. You not going to have dinner?”

“Not feeling hungry.”

“ok I’ll go down and get some dinner when you fall asleep and bring some extra in case you get hungry.”

I nod my head and lay back resting my head on the arm of the chair and close my eyes. Takes me a few minutes before I drift off into nowhere.

A week passes and everything has become like clock work. Wake up at six, shower then breakfast, meet with Kyle and James, do my rounds on the boarder for the next few hours back to meet with Doc at 10, have my lunch in the room with Kali, catch up on some work with the police force for a few hours, four o’clock I’m downstairs training the young wolves, six o’clock Sharon and another female give Kali her wash while I have another brief meeting with Kyle and James then dinner in the room with Kali, shower and the rest of the evening I spend with Kali talking to her about my day and other things and also working on our connection. Nik has been sleeping in the room with us since that night I had to have a cold shower.

Each time Doc comes to do his routine check on Kali nothing has changed, everything is still normal and her blood results came back normal also. The same goes with my attempt’s at trying to connect with Kali I haven’t had any luck.

One of the two changes so far are the rogues. There have been only one or two rogues a day but they are easily caught and killed.

The biggest change is, Penny spends a little time with Kali, we always leave to give her some space and privacy. She comes at random times but we don’t say anything and let her be.

Today will be the eighth day since she slipped into a coma and almost two weeks since the incident. I start today like any other day, shower, get dressed, say good morning to my beautiful mate and give her a kiss on the forehead and a kiss on the hand before I leave and close the door behind me.

I take a few steps and pause before turning around and going back into the room. Standing next to the bed looking down at Kali. Slowly I reach for her hand and like a shock my eyes widen.

“Nik! Nik! Wake up!”

“hmm what? Why you waking me up?” still sleepy and slurring his words.

“Grab Kali’s hand!”

Nik rolls over and starts feeling around for Kali’s hand, once he finds it he pauses and sits up pushing the eye mask above his brows.

“She’s warm Nik! I think she’s coming back!” I’m like a little kid that can’t contain his excitement.

“ok calm down let’s not get ahead of ourselves yet. We don’t know how long she’ll be in this state.” Not sounding too excited. “you think you can connect with her now?”

“I can try but I’m too excited to focus.”

“Ok well Doc will be here in a few hours let’s keep an eye on her, something else might change.”

Pacing back and forth wondering if anything else is going to change or if she’s going to wake up. So many questions going through my head, what? When? Why? Where? Who? How? I’m going insane with excitement. I keep touching her hand her face, and then notice the stitches on her forehead is no longer there.

“Nik? Are her stitches gone? We should call Doc now.”

Nik inspects her head.

“No need to call him to come this early, it definitely would have healed by now but I’m sure doc said it would leave a scar.” Looking a little stumped for answers. “I guess we’re gonna…”

Before Nik can finish his sentence Kali’s eyes fly open, plain white and lit up like light bulbs looking straight ahead at the ceiling, she doesn’t say anything nor moves a muscle. Nik and I are speechless and looking at each other not sure of what to do. Nik who was on the bed now beside me saying in a low voice.

“I’ll call Doc now.”

Standing there looking dumbfounded. I’m interrupted by a mind link from James and Kyle.

Boss the prisoners are going crazy in their cells.

When did this start?

Literally just now. I came down after the switch over with James.

James anything happening?

The rogues are in the field, keeping their distance and not doing anything like they’re waiting for something.

Stand ready! Kyle are you and your crew ok to stand guard a little longer?

Don’t worry we are already on our way out.

If they cross the boarders take action.

I cut the mind link and race down the hallway storming into Penny’s room waking her up and dragging her back to Kali. She has a surprised look on her face then looks at me and back at Kali.

“What’s happening?”

“I don’t know she was warm and then this happened. The rogues are reacting to her I think.”

Not long after my sentence Kali shuts her eyes. Everything stays silent and then the next thing we hear coming from outside, the howling of what sounds like a lot of wolves.
