200 Words
The next morning, she walked into the café, rain-soaked streets behind her. She didn’t know why she returned, but part of her needed answers. Akin was there, exactly where he had been the day before. His calm gaze found hers immediately. “You came back,” he said, almost teasing. “I… I got a strange message last night,” she admitted, sliding into the seat opposite him. He nodded slowly, his eyes narrowing, thoughtful. “I suspected something like this might happen. Lagos has… its ways. You just have to know where to look.” The words made her uneasy. Something about his presence made Amina’s chest tighten. Akin noticed immediately, standing to block her view. “Stay calm,” he murmured. “Not everyone here is as friendly as they seem.” The man left without incident, but Amina’s nerves didn’t settle. Whatever was happening, it had begun, and she felt like she had stepped into a story bigger than herself.
