Chapter 2

1051 Words
Myra's POV, As the days turned into weeks, I attended job interviews, and slowly but surely, I began to find my footing in the professional world. It was challenging, but I was determined to prove myself and build a successful career. Life without Heer physically by my side was different, but our bond remained unbreakable. We continued to support each other, sharing our successes and setbacks through countless phone calls and messages. Months passed, and I found a job that I was passionate about. The initial uncertainty had given way to a sense of purpose and achievement. I was growing into the person I had always wanted to be, and I knew that Dad was proud of me from wherever he was. One day, I received a call from Heer. She had some exciting news to share – she had decided to return to our city and pursue her own career goals. I couldn't contain my excitement, knowing that we would soon be reunited. It felt like a new chapter was beginning, and I couldn't wait to see where life would take us next. As I hung up the phone, I couldn't help but smile. The journey of adulthood was still unfolding, but with Heer by my side once again, I felt ready to face whatever challenges and adventures lay ahead. Our friendship had stood the test of time, and together, we were ready to conquer the world. As I head into the kitchen, the aroma of fresh coffee fills the air. I put on a pot to brew while I gather the ingredients for my breakfast. Today, I'm in the mood for a hearty omelette and some buttered toast. The sizzle of eggs in the pan is music to my ears, and I season them just the way I like. While I enjoy my breakfast, I can't help but reflect on the exciting day ahead. The supervisors from Mumbai are scheduled to arrive at our office by mid-morning. They're here for a comprehensive review of our company's operations, and I've been entrusted with ensuring their visit goes smoothly. It's a significant responsibility, but I'm up for the challenge. After finishing my meal, I carefully pack my lunchbox with some homemade biryani and a side of boondi raita. It's a small indulgence amidst a busy day. I double-check that I have all my essentials: my ID badge, a notepad, and a pen. The door, of course, gets my utmost attention. I lock it meticulously, just as I always do, ensuring it's secure from top to bottom, a ritual ingrained in the culture. With everything in order, I step out into the morning sun, ready to face the day ahead with enthusiasm and determination. The weather outside is pleasant, with a gentle breeze rustling the leaves of the trees lining my street. The familiar sights and sounds of my neighborhood greet me as I make my way to the office. There's the chaiwalla on the corner, his stall already bustling with people sipping on their morning tea and discussing the day's news. As I walk towards the office, I can't help but think about my new role as an HR professional at 'Shergill Group Of Company.' It's a dream come true, and I still can't believe my luck. Working for one of the country's top billionaire-owned companies is not just a job; it's an opportunity to learn and grow in a dynamic environment. I arrive at the office just in time to greet the supervisors from Mumbai. They are an impressive group, and I can tell that this visit is of utmost importance to them. I guide them to our well-appointed conference room, where presentations and discussions will take place throughout the day. The meetings are intense and filled with insightful discussions about our company's operations, future plans, and strategies. I take diligent notes and ensure that all their requirements are met promptly. It's a demanding day, but I thrive in the fast-paced atmosphere. Lunch time arrives, and I share my homemade biryani with the visiting team. They seem to appreciate the gesture, and we chat over our meal about our respective backgrounds and interests. It's a chance to build rapport and foster a positive atmosphere during their visit. As the day draws to a close, I can't help but feel a sense of accomplishment. The supervisors from Mumbai leave with positive feedback, and I know that today's effort was a significant step in strengthening our company's position in the industry. I head home, still buzzing with excitement about my job and the opportunities that lie ahead. While I'm on my way home, my phone rings, and it's my manager on the line. He informs me that the owner's son will be visiting our office tomorrow morning at the early hour of 7 a.m. I agree to this without hesitation, even though I can't help but wonder why such an early start is necessary. It makes me ponder if they consider us mere mortals. The conversation with my manager leaves me with a mix of curiosity and a sense of responsibility. I know that hosting the owner's son is a significant event, and punctuality is crucial. So, I mentally prepare myself for the early morning and make a note to ensure that everything runs smoothly during this important visit. The shrill sound of my alarm pierces through my slumber, but I choose to remain blissfully unaware, my desire for just a few more minutes of sleep winning out. In the midst of my continued rest, I find myself ensnared in a vivid nightmare where the owner's son fires me from my job, his disappointment palpable as I arrive late. A sudden jolt brings me back to reality, and I bolt upright in bed, my heart racing. Sweat beads on my forehead as I anxiously glance at the clock. The red digital numbers display 6:25, and panic washes over me. The visit from the owner's son is rapidly approaching, and I have precious little time to prepare. With a surge of adrenaline, I spring into action, scrambling to get dressed and ready in record time, all the while cursing my decision to ignore that persistent alarm. The nightmare still lingers in my mind, serving as a stark reminder that punctuality today is non-negotiable.
