Veronica was wearing the gown given by Albert, so she was feeling prouder than ever without taking anyone seriously. "I didn't give a negative comment. Mr. Albert has said that Tuvern is too cheap, but it suits you though."
She was determined to belittle Charlotte, so what she said wasn't nice. She didn't know that Jason and the guest next to him had a gloomy look on their faces.
Charlotte had intended to laugh at Veronica but was afraid that Jason would vent his anger on her as well, so she softly apologized on Veronica's behalf. "Please don't take it to heart, Mr. Tanner. Ms. Jules is merely spouting nonsense because she's mad at me."
