5 I stared at Tania in stunned silence for a minute, my mind trying to parse out her meaning. It got derailed by a more pressing question that short-circuited the rest of my body. How did she know I was here? As far as I’d known, she had plans to stay in all day, because of the weather. But, the rain had let up. Maybe she’d gone out for a walk. She had every right to do so. Then again, small towns bred gossip, especially if people were being questioned by the police at High Time. It’s possible someone had already shared the news of Vera’s death.
