"Hello, Your Majesty. It's been some time. I heard you have some patients for me to attend to here in this Orphanage?" another robed person came in and greeted The Majesty. Now at least I know how to address him and not by the way he looks and so on. The robed person removed the hood and looked at me and asked, "You must be one of us, am I right? Your name is Kristobel? Hello… My name is Isabela. I am also like you, a Priestess and my special ability are to heal and regenerate lost or amputated limbs."
I could see that the one in front of me named Isabela was a lady in her late 20'ish. She was slender and she smiled whenever she met everyone. I am sure she is well-liked as she is one of the Priestesses that can grow back limbs like the branches of a tree or something like that. When Priestess Isabela stretched her hand out for a handshake, I could not help but notice how smooth and fair her skin was and when I shook her hands, our hands' texture was like worlds apart…!
"Nice to meet you too, Sister Isabela… Yes, I am Kristobel and I am a resident here for more than 10 years already since my parents died in a mining explosion. I think there was someone by the name of Fire-something that had come to me and explained that he was there when the mine explodes which resulted in many deaths in and around the mines." I am bad with names so I could only remember the first two or three-syllable of a person's name at most. Besides, it's easier for me to remember faces and rhyme them with the person's shape and size.
"Oh, you mean Firestone? Ah, it seems Farah is here too. Do you know the role of the Priestess that had come here besides me and Windtalker? What I mean is that we have Priest and Priestess that would be able to talk to plants, manipulate water, earth, wind et cetera. Like me, I manipulate the cells and bone structure of a person so that the limbs can grow back where it was amputated. In other words, the arms or legs got chopped off. I can't grow back a head, however…Hahaha…!"
I laughed too and find it weird and funny to find a person who walks around with his head in his arms and asking for help to put it back on…!!!
"Not really, Sister Isabela. So far I have not seen any other people who are like me but I had seen Sister Windtalker and she also is like me, we talk to mice…"
Isabela threw back her head and laughed out hard since she knew Windtalker was capable of doing much more than just talking to mice, am I right? Besides, the way I put it so bluntly made Isabela relax and become less tense since it had been some time she had been in an Orphanage like this. Ever since she was chased off from the family, she had been sleeping rough in the wilderness until she had met Samuel the Seer with the donkey and travelled with him quite a bit before reaching Gracehaven.
"How old are you, Kristobel?" Priestess Isabela asked and I replied. "Well, did anyone propose to you to go to the Academy? Over there you can find people just like you and me who had just awakened and be able to hone their skills further. Besides, there's an academic school where you would learn not only to read and write but also learn about the cultures of the Origins."
"This Origins would be able to let you understand where the Priest and Priestess come from and how to identify the black and the white Priest and Priestess. Of course, the Academy also have a boarding house for young girls like you, but much better than an Orphanage. I believe Our Majesty would be able to handle that effectively."
"Squeak, Squeak, Squeak, Sqqquuueeeaaaakkkkkkk"
"Kristobel, can you ask Priestess Isabela if she can heal mice and other animals or not? My baby is unable to walk, I think it had broken its foot or something."
A grey mouse ran up and went to my feet as it tugged on my little toe before letting our soft squeaks, afraid that the other party would be afraid of mice or other small furry animals…!
"Errmm, are you afraid or feels squeamish with mice? Because there's a mouse here that was asking if you could heal animals besides humans?" I asked and I hope that the question is not inappropriate since Priestess Isabela had just arrived and I am asking favours from her. I do not even know her that well and it had been some moments since we had last chatted.
"Mice? No, I don't feel squeamish or afraid at all. Hmm, I would look at your friend later on, would that be alright? I would like to see the patients first and make them as comfortable as possible before doing any procedures. So, what happen to your friend?"
Priestess Isabela asked and I explained to her amid the squeaks of the grey mouse at my foot that seems rather excited when hearing that Priestess Isabela was willing to help her and her little baby. Priestess Isabela squatted down at my foot to see the grey mouse and softly said, "Don't worry mama mouse. I will see to it once I see my patients first, okay? They had been suffering for a long time and I want to see the extent of the damage and see how long the process would take. Once I had seen the patients, I would do and see Kristobel and she will bring me to you, alright?"
"Squeak, squeak, squeak, squeeeeeaaakkkkkkk"
The grey mouse scurried off across the floor and Priestess Isabela stood up after talking to it. She was wondering if the grey mouse understood her or not but one thing for use, anyone or any animal that needs healing, is always welcome to approach her.
"Alright, can you bring me to the patients and then we all can sit down to have lunch? My dear ladies in the kitchen? I am hungry and so does the rest of us here…Would lunch be served soon?" Priestess Isabela poked her head inside the kitchen doorway and greeted everyone there. All the Residents-In-Charge were in the kitchen preparing the pottage that was the tradition in Gracehaven City.
I could smell the wonderful burst of aroma in the kitchen which I had never smelt before. The other children were helping HRH JR and HRH Amy to coordinate the sleeping quarters since HRH JR and HRH Amy had placed big placards near the end of the bed so that everyone could differentiate which bed belonged to who, and at the same time be able to recognise the children as well.
There was a funny piece of circular yellow paper that had some kind of sticky stuff behind it. It had two dots for eyes and a crescent for a smile. Below it was something scrawled and I knew it would be the name of the child. HRH Amy came over to me and pasted one on my left side of the chest and I looked at it.
"It's a 'Hello There' smiley sticker. Below is your name, and we are not sure if it is spelt with a C or a K, but it sure sounds the same. By the way, there would be a briefing by our Daddy, so could you get all the children to assemble here first? We had been running after them all over the place and we are already breathless from all the running about."
"And all this running about makes us HUNGRY….Aum Aum Aum…I could eat a horse right nowHahaha…!!!" HRH Amy was gesticulating on the sounds she had just made and also made some chomping actions like as if she was biting on a huge chunk of meat…! I had never seen anyone eat a chunk of meat before except for maybe an occasional bird that they had set on the table on Thanksgiving Day, et cetera. This is only when I had gained access to the house by stealth and illegal means…!!!
"Alright, let me do it. There's a voice pipe in the old Matron's office that could deliver whistle blows and bring all the children into the particular room. 1 short whistle blow to the assembly hall, which is the main hall, 2 short whistle blows to the dining hall and 3 short whistle blows to the sleeping quarters, which is also the single shared dormitory."
"So we shall assemble all the children in the assembly hall, would that be alright? Sister Isabela wanted to take a look at the patients and I think that's the best place to be right now. Furthermore, I think the meals that the seniors are cooking is almost ready. I could drool just by the smell of the food that is being prepared there. How come I have never come across such a wonderful smell before…?"
HRH JR and HRH Amy were clapping their hands as they held on my arms to lead them to where the voice pipe was. They were excited to give the voice pipe a try or simply being led by a teenager to go and venture about to places undiscovered yet.
