"So as you can see, our intentions here for the children of this Orphanage as well as the others who have special abilities are clear and concise."
"This place is a great place for the underprivileged children and I believe that there are more children that need to be rounded up and be placed here under the care of those wards under my husband and me."
"My husband may be of a royal bloodline but he doesn't really matter that much because there is no difference between a royal if he got stripped naked and paraded in public, am I right? Hehehe."
"My husband got a lot of ways to use as a metaphor and it would always be in his joking manner all the time." The wife of the silver ash grey-haired man noted to me as I explained to her the whole layout of the Orphanage and she highlighted to me the intentions of continuing the service of this place to those children who require a shelter.
I am sure that these good kind-hearted people could be trusted as they don't even bother to see the piles of coins that I had shown it to them. I believe they would have a room full filled with these type of coins in the Castle or something like that…!
"Excuse me, Ma'am. I heard that somebody mentioned that some of the children need to go somewhere to have medical attention or something like that? Why is there a need to have such attention?" I asked since it was hard for me to pronounce some words and I was wondering what happened to some of the children that had been highlighted to the King earlier.
"Oh, that… Don't worry a thing. Earlier, an old man named Firestone talked to you about his inability to save our parents right and he did mention that his leg was crushed by the wheels of the wagon when he fell from it due to the blast, right? Well, let me tell you this."
"We have a Priestess that would be able to assist in helping to heal the wounds and repair the damage done by the goonies here. We all knew what had happened to the children as they were brought in here and we have no jurisdiction over this place, initially."
"Not until this place was run by you and the officials were unable to contact the proprietor of this place for three times in a row. By then, the City Councils allowed us to officially take over this place after paying them a sum of money. Money talks around here, dearie."
"We do not mind to pay such a sum to secure this place as long as we know that the children here would be in safe hands. There would be no one here that would ill-treat the children and break any limbs to make them as beggars on the streets of Arkandale anymore…!"
I could see the wife of the silver ash grey-haired man was seething in anger and she balled her fists tightly and gnashing her teeth. If there's a punching bag, I think she would have a go at it to release her anger…!!!
I was curious about how much money was paid to secure the place so I asked, "How much did you pay for this Orphanage, Ma'am?" The wife of the silver ash grey-haired man replied which made me reel back in horror…! "One thousand gold coins, dearie. It is nothing much though since Gracehaven City makes a few thousand gold coins per day through its production and sales."
NOW WONDER THEY LOOKED RATHER UNINTERESTED WITH THE COINS I SHOWED THEM EARLIER…IT WAS LIKE SMALL CHANGE TO THEM…!!!
"What do you think, Dear? Will you be sending the children over to our Hospital or you would be sending Priestess Isabela over here instead? But sending her here would make her absent from the Hospital there, am I right?" the wife of the silver ash grey-haired man asked and the Majesty simply replied, "We will get Isabela to be here. Our airship is camouflaged and is at the outskirt of town so we could send word to the Captain now and hurry back to fetch Priestess Isabela here instead. Besides, it is been some time since she had been out of town and I am sure the others would like to follow her as well."
I was piqued when the silver ash grey-haired man pulled out something from his tunic and fixed on to his ear and the other he placed it over his lips as he talked into the contraption. Within minutes after conversing through it, he kept it back into his tunic.
"That's a listening and communication Sigil. It is being used to communicate with the Captain of the airship which was hovering just outside town, The Director for the Ministry of Health would be here in under 1 hour."
I listened in awe as if everything that was unfolding in front of me was all but a dream after all. Besides, it was as if the whole scenario here was like a stage and everyone here was made up of actors and actresses…!!!
"Your Majesty, we have made a new census on the residents here including Kristobel. There are 37 of them, 21 of them are girls and 16 of them are boys. Those that had their limbs rendered useless before coming here are 11 girls and 6 boys."
"There are 17 patients that would be needing medical treatment and I had informed Clayton and some of the helpers to set up the temporary infirmary for Priestess Isabela to work on in case she would be coming here instead of the children going there."
"I think once the children are ready, they would be going over to Gracehaven City to learn a new trade for themselves. Once they are of age, they can choose to be Residents-In-Charge here or open up their own trade in this town or anywhere else they wished for, am I right, Your Majesty?" the old man named Old Jack or Grandpa Jack came forward and presented the thick book that had been made into a census or whatever it was called. But the main thing is that what the Old Jack or Grandpa Jack had mentioned was true. There are 11 girls and 6 boys who either was made cripple or even lost their limbs due to being beaten and broken several times. HORRID, I TELL YOU…!!!
"That's right, Old Jack. By the where, where's Old Kayla? Is she preparing food for everyone here as well? I am sure they had gone to look for the kitchen as it was one of Old Kayla's practise ever since I knew her. Hahaha…!"
"Yes, Your Majesty… Unless your nose had gotten numb from smelling her dishes all this while, she and the rest of the Residents-In-Charge were preparing the food as we speak. Would you like to say hello to the children as we wait for the food to be ready? Some of them looked really pitiful, Your Majesty. It was unlike the time when we were just a settlement, dozen of years ago. Clayton here still is nothing compared to the children here, Your Majesty."
I was listening to the sides and was wondering how come this Majesty or King here could allow his people around him to talk casually. Compared to the Matron, no one is allowed to speak to her personally and she does not listen to anyone. She expects everyone to adhere to her instructions even though how low and wrong it may be.
But this Majesty and Queen before me were acting as if there was nothing for the common folks to talk to them casually. There were no harsh words and all the conversations that took place were like an everyday conversation except for the way the rest of the people who addressed the Majesty and Queen. That's what I think they would call, am I right?
Right now, there was a lot of hustle and bustle within the Orphanage as Clayton and the rest of the helpers were offloading the goods from the covered horse-drawn carriage and sorting them out in the kitchen. As I peeked through the kitchen doorway, I saw the once empty kitchen had been stocked with sacks of grains and other vegetables. There were meat and its not just a small portion of it but dozens of birds that had been smoked and were hanging above the prep table.
Some peculiar-looking wicker baskets had been wheeled in and I looked at it as I had seen it before when I 'plundered' those homes which the occupants were out shopping for groceries during the day.
"Oh, hello there, Kris. Clayton, remember? Heh, I bet you had not seen this before. This is a two-door cooler box. The top one here is used to keep frozen stuff like fish or meat even if its summer. The bottom part here is being used to store vegetables and fruits and it is chilled as if its always in autumn."
"This one is a hot and water dispensing tun that connects directly with the plumbing here to give chilled or hot boiling water each time you turn this small tap here. You do not need to worry about filling this tun anymore since there is a device here that stops the flow of water when it is about three-quarters full."
No one had ever called me Kris before and normally it would be my full name and those who called me would drag the L behind it and let it roll in their tongue to make it sound cute… But frankly speaking, I kinda liked it when this Clayton guy called me that way. I was daydreaming to myself and was wondering if he had any girlfriend at this moment.
HOY…!!! WAKE UP GIRL AND STOP DAYDREAMING…!!! HE COULD BE A WOLF IN SHEEP'S SKIN…!!!
"Kris… Erhm, Kris… Are you still with us…?" Clayton asked as he peered over at my direction.
