After that incident, I told Lily everything and then she reluctantly came to the decision that it's best if Cian and his family never knew about Vivian.
A few days later, I received a call from Lily.
"I just got a new place." She told me.
"Oh my God, I am so happy for you." I said, genuinely being happy for you.
"Thanks." She said. "It's a two bedroom and I was hoping that maybe you could come up and stay with me."
I gasped at the offer.
"Wait what?" I said in shock. "You want me to come live with you?"
She nodded. "No, I want to invite Dracula and his wife to live with me. Of course, I want you to come over you dummy."
I was shocked unable to know what to say.
"That isn't all." Lily said. "One of my many boyfriends got a one in a million job vacancy as an assistant for his boss who is some bigtime CEO."
I gasped. "No way."
"Yes way." She said sounding so excited.
"I don't know what to say." I spoke aloud.
"You don't have to say anything, just come." Lily said.
"But I don't have any well uhmm... what do they call it again?" I said thinking aloud.
"Qualifications?" Lily asked.
"Yes, qualifications. The only thing I have is a high school diploma." I said. "And that isn't going to get me any job in the city, worse a job as a whole ass assistant for a big time CEO."
"Why do you worry so much?" Lily asked me.
"Everything is already worked out. Just get a plane down here and we will work things out. You will explain things." She said. "I already bought a ticket for you this Friday."
"Woah, woah, woah." I stopped her in her tracks. "You already brought me a seat on a plane for Friday?"
"Yes, for you and Vivian." She said matter of fact.
I dropped my mouth in shock.
"I know you have talent and I know that you wouldn't get anything solid, just staying in that old town. You need to fly your wings for more opportunities." Lily said. "Plus it would be really nice to have my best friend and goddaughter down here."
I was dumb. Completely dumb.
"I don't know what to say." I repeated. "I really don't know what to say. I just.... er.... i meann... this is just all too much for me to take in."
Lily sighed. "I totally understand, why don't I just let you sometime to think things through ok? Make a decision for yourself."
I nodded even though she couldn't see me.
"Ok." I said. "I'll call you back."
I ended the call and held the phone to my chest.
I had been getting odd jobs daily and been looking for a job for literally four years. And now here I was. One had found me. So why was I contemplating. Why was hesitating?
I walked out of my room and went down the stairs.
I saw my younger brother watching TV.
"Where's mum?" I asked.
He shrugged. "I don't know. I think she went out."
I looked at the door and went outside.
There I found dad sitting on the swings and reading a book.
I walked up to him and then I sat down on the empty swing beside him.
"Hi dad." I said.
He turned to me with a knowing smile.
"How is my Selena?" He asked me.
I smiled.
"I'm fine dad." I said.
Then he looked at me.
"You got something to tell me huh?" Dad asked me.
Dad was like mum. It was like he could read right through my soul.
I took in a very deep sigh.
"I spoke to Lily today and she said she got a job offer for me." I said. "As an assistant for some big CEO in the city."
Dad looked at me in awe. "Oh did she? That is great honey."
I sighed and looked down at my feet.
"What's wrong? Aren't you happy?" Dad asked me.
I shrugged and bit my lip.
"I don't know dad. I mean, I have been looking for a job for like the longest time and now here is one being served to me on a platter of Gold." I said and sighed heavily again.
"So what's the problem?" He asked me. "Aren't you happy you got this job?"
I looked up at him. "I am dad.. But the thing is I'm worried. I'm scared of actually leaving this town. Leaving you, mum, everyone. I was born here, been here all my life. I feel like a coward hiding down here."
I remained mute.
Then Dad said. "You know why I named you Selena?"
I looked up at him. "Yeah I do. After Selena Perez, the musician, right?
"Yes, that's true, but not just that." He said. "You see, Selena means moon and then when I was young, the moon always fascinated me. I always wanted to know what it was like to be on the moon and I always admired her. You see the moon is in one place, but then she is everywhere."
"I named you Selena because I wanted you here with us, but then everywhere else. Wanted you to be that bird that could fly but still have her soul where she belonged." He said. "I know that leaving home is going to be extremely difficult for you, but then you're my little Selena. The bold daughter that I love and that I will always be proud of."
"Even though I eventually didn't have black hair like Selena?" I asked him with a smile.
Dad's had been heartbroken when he saw I had taken over him and not mum and had blonde hair and not the black like Selena did.
He touched my chin. "Yes, no matter what, you will always be my own Selena. My special Selena with the blonde hair and not black."
I hugged him and let myself breathe in his beautiful scent that I had known since my childhood.
"I love you Dad." I said through the hug.
"I love you too Selena." He replied. "We all do, never forget that."
I had made my decision.
