I woke up and very slowly walked out of my room. The zeal for me to do anything, wthere. It was like I had no meaning anymore in life. The days, just came and went by. Just like wind.
I had no job, no money, but then I had a four year old daughter who was growing bigger by the second. I couldn't keep relying on my parents all the time. I needed to find my own solid ground.
There was no one I could turn to, that was going to willingly help me out. I had no degree, just my high school diploma which wasn't even taking me anywhere. No one in town wanted to given me a job anyways. Maybe it was time for me to move out of town.
I poured myself a cup of coffee and was sipping it quietly when I heard my phone ring.
I sighed and walked to the kitchen counter where it was and picked it up.
"Hello." I said very uninterested and bored.
"Selena?" I heard familiar female voice say.
I frowned and crossed my brows. "Yes. Who's asking?"
"Oh my God, Selly it's me your best friend, Lily." The voice screamed.
"Wait what?" I said in complete shock.
I hadn't spoken to Lily for a while now After I had given birth, she left town and moved to the city in search of a job. We had kept in contact, but then we had both gotten busy. I had Maya to concentrate on, while she had her job search to concentrate.
"Oh my God, Hi." I said Excitedly. "It has been forever."
She chuckled. "I know. It's crazy. I have been as busy as hell. Trying to get my s**t together and all that. Also trying to secure the bag.
I smiled. "That really sounds great. I am happy for you."
"How is Viv? And you mum and everyone?" She asked.
"Vivian is fine. The little monkey is making trouble everywhere as usual. But damn, I don't want her to grow up. She grows up so fast it's like I want her to remain four forever." I said.
"Awwwwn." Lily said over the phone.
"I know." I laughed. "My mum is fine, my dad. We're all good."
"Selly I wanted to call and check up on you. I just got a new job. Your girl is finally a worker for Gucci." Lily said.
I gasped. "No way."
"Yes way." Lily said.
Right from school, it had been Lily's dream to be a design for a big company and here she was telling me that she had landed herself a job working for Gucci.
"This is crazy. I am so happy for you." I said excitedly.
"Well it's not that all big. I'm not a major designer yet. I'm just one of the girls doing the seams and all that." She said.
"Oh please. You have the reputation of working at Gucci carry with your full shoulders." I told her and we laughed together.
"What are you up to?" She asked me.
I bit my lip. I was dreading this question. I was so embarrassed I had no idea how to tell my best friend that I was still jobless.
I closed my eyes and said it. "I don't have a job yet."
There was a stilled silence over the phone.
"Are you ok?" Lily asked me sounding extremely worried.
I gave off a bitter laugh.
"I guess I am." I said. "I mean, here I am staying with my parents and literally depending with them and at the same time with a four year old daughter who seems to never stop growing while I ma here doing nothing."
I had no idea when the tears started rolling down my cheeks.
"Hey, hey, hey, sweetheart." Lily said. "Don't cry."
Once the tears started, I couldn't stop them. They just flowed like a river endlessly.
"I don't know what to do, I feel like a total failure, like a total loser. I am supposed to be a role model to my daughter, but then just take a look at me now. I am a complete nobody." I said in between sobs.
"Oh Selly are things this bad?" Lily asked me.
I cleaned my eyes.
"I don't know how I am managing honestly." I said. "Mum doesn't complain, I know that she is going through a lot. I feel like such a disappointment. I feel I should have done more."
"Don't say that." Lily told me. "Putting yourself down isn't going to be of any help. And you should be strong for Vivian. If you are so down, then who is going to stand for her?"
"I'm just so frustrated." I said as I gasped with my miserable tears. "I feel like shit."
"And you can't get any job in town?" Lily asked me.
I gave off a bitter laugh. "Get a job in town? Me? Who am I please? When no one wants to give a single mother who got pregnant in high school and has nothing to her name. I went to a restaurant to get a job as a waitress, it then I was turned down. Do you know why? Because I had a child who in turn has no father."
I sighed heavily.
"b***h ass people." Lily wore angrily. "And what about Cian? Haven't you told me that he fathered a child?"
I laughed bitterly. "Tell who Cian? That he has a child? I must be dreaming. Cian wants to have nothing to do with me. His family wouldn't even want to see me. They hate me."
"But It is his bloody responsibility." Lily said angrily.
"He doesn't even know that he has a child." I said.
"Selena." Lily said my full name. Whenever she used my full name, she was about to give me a talk of my life. "You had his child. You were accused of something that you never did."
"But they had proof didn't they?" I said reasonably.
"Who gives two f***s about that?" She asked me. "We can take a DNA test and prove that the child is his. And then he is going to be forced to pay for child support. Whether he likes it or not. It takes two to make a child Selena. Not just one. If it was that way, then there will be no need of divorces or having to need to have sex."
"I don't want that." I said.
"Why?" Lily said sounding frustrated over the phone. "He is literally abandoning you to take care of a whole ass human being that is never going to stop growing. Vivian isn't a puppy that remains a particular way for life. She is going to grow up and so will you. You need to have your own life too."
