Once we got home. I called my mum. There were up to eight missed calls already. "Hi mum." I said. "I'm so sorry I missed your calls. I was busy." "It's ok." Mum said. "How is Vivian?" I asked. "I want to talk to her." "Well she is asleep already. She has been waiting for you so that you two could talk." Mum said. I scratched my head and bit my lips. The guilt was deep. "I'm so sorry mum." I apologized. "There is no need to be apologetic. It's ok." Mum said. "Is there a way I could maybe talk to her." I asked hopefully. "No, I'm sorry sweetie. She is already asleep." Mum said. I sighed and closed my eyes. "Ok, can you just give her a kiss for me?" I asked. "Of course. I would." She said. "Alright thanks. Bye." I said as I ended the call. Then I walked to the parlor and sat down. Lily came to me. "Do you want to talk about it?" She asked me. Then she sat down beside me. "I pretty much didn't expect to see him." I stated simply. She smiled at me. "I know. I get that." I sighed and just stared into a blank space for a while. "Seeing him was just off." "But he didn't hurt you did he?" She asked. "He did. He tried to at least." I replied. "Did he succeed?" She asked me. I gave a weak smile. "You could say he did" Then I looked. "Seeing him just stirred a lot of emotions in him. Made me confused. Made me lost. I thought maybe I had gotten over him, but just seeing him now. I don't know." I said as I covered my face. I felt Lily's gentle hand on my shoulder. "There is nothing to be confused about. I feel so terrible that you were there all alone." She told me. "What is so crazy is that all the time I've been here, I never saw Cian. Neither did I expect to find him here. I should have been here with you." Then she looked at me. "What else did he say? Does he know about Vivian?" I shook my head. "God no, He doesn't and he is never going to know." I pulled a very deep breath and just looked. "Just try to calm down." Lily said. "I'm sorry I can't just keep calm. Here is someone who ruined my life. Destroyed my future, made my whole life a living nightmare and he just pops out of nowhere. I am here because of Vivian. I don't want her managing life. She deserves a good life. f**k it, I'm not even being a good mother. I literally haven't spoken to her since I left town. She deserves so much more than I am offering her." "And you will give her that life. Maybe not immediately, but gradually." Lily said holding my hand. "And you aren't a bad mother. You are great one. I mean, how many mothers would have to leave their children and come down to the city to make a better living for both of them." I said nothing, but then Lily smiled at me. "I want you to understand that all these things that are happening, well it's just circumstances. You are going to get there eventually at least." "I hope so." I stated. "Thanks for the pep talk." She hugged me tight. "Anytime." That night, I couldn't sleep. I just lay in my bed thinking about what had just happened. With so much questions flooded in my hands. Questions that genuinely needed answers. Then I turned in my bed and finally closed my eyes to sleep. * * * The day for my work finally came. It was Monday morning and I couldn't help with my anxiety. I wore my brand new skirt suit that Lily had gotten for me. It fit my body perfectly and smug. With my hair packed up in a high ponytail and my glasses on, not to talk of my heels. I felt ready. I felt like I could conquer the whole world. I took in a heavy breath and looked at myself in the mirror. "You can do this Selena." I told myself. "And you will do it." I said. Then I left my room and headed out towards the living room. Lily's mouth dropped open when she saw me. "Would you look at yourself?" Lily grinned at me from ear to ear. "You look like one of those extremely hot type of secretaries that seduce their boss. If your boss had a wife, she would go nuts just having you around him." "Oh please." I waved my hands off. Then I gave her a worried look. "Isn't my skirt too short?" "Too short?" Lily gasped. "If i were to be you, I would be wearing something shorter." I had no idea of what Lily was talking about. If she wore something shorter, she was going to be showing off her panties for the world to see. "I don't know, maybe it's because I'm a mum and I'm just unconsciously being really conscious." I said. "Sweetheart, no one would even notice that you are a mum." Lily told me. "Not in their wildest dreams would they think that you even have a child. Gosh you look sixteen. You could pass for a runway model." I sighed and gave her a funny look, not sure if I was to believe her. "I am not overexaggerating." Lily promised me. Then there was a knock at the door.
