Lily jumped up to get it. "That must be Luke."
She went to the door and a few seconds later, she came out with a man in a neat and expensive designer suit. He had red hair and on his face, there were some freckles. He was very attractive and something about him reminded me of Archie in the comics.
"Hi, I'm Luke Andrews." He told me as he extended my hand to me.
"I'm Selena Edwards." I said as he shook my hand.
This was a man who was hot and looked rich. Why was Lily not taking him seriously.
"So are you ready?" He asked me.
I nodded awkwardly. "Yeah, I think I am."
I had already spoken to Vivian this morning. We had facetimed and when it was time for me to end the call, she cried and didn't want to let me go. It had broken my heart, but then I had no choice literally.
Lily gave me a big hg.
"You're going to be fantastic, I know it." Lily said smiling at me.
I didn't feel fantastic, but then I had no choice.
"Aren't you coming with us?" I asked her.
She shook her head. "Nah, I actually have a piece to finish before I get to work."
Luke took me to his car and it was a sleek BMW.
"Nice car." I said. "A twenty twenty one model right?"
He rose a brow at me. "How did you know?"
I shrugged. "My Dad also works as a mechanic so I sort of picked up a things or two on cars."
That was a lie, it wasn't just a thing or two,. I grasped a lot of things from my Dad whenever he was working on his cars.
"You friend doesn't think that this is a nice car." Luke said. "She says it's too boring."
I laughed. "Please don't take Lily seriously. If you do, then you're going to have a heart attack." I told him.
He smiled at him.
Poor Luke, he was being bullied by Lily and he didn't even know it.
"So you're a partner at this company?" I asked him.
"Something like that." He said. "I'm one of the stakeholders here. The CEO needed an assistant so I mentioned it to Lily and she said she had someone. Apparently you are good with accounts and all that stuff?"
I nodded. "Yes, I am."
"And you were allegedly an A one student." He asked me.
"Yeah I was." I said with a little laugh.
"Do you mind telling me what happened?" He asked me.
I swallowed, unsure if I was to actually tell him the truth. I had lost so many job opportunities because I had told them that I had a child. But then I margined if I didn't and he found out or the CEO himself found out eventually, it would end terribly.
I sighed and closed my eyes and said the truth. "I got pregnant."
"Is that why you didn't go to school?" He asked me.
I nodded. "Yes."
Then I started to beg. "Please don't fire me. I know that i have a child and that I should have gone to college, but then there is nothing I can do about that right now. All I'm doing right now is to take care of her. She is the only thing that really matters to m right now."
"Her?" He said. "You had a girl?"
I nodded as I swallowed heavily. "Yes. I get turned down by everyone every time I am supposed to get a job. This is my last and only hope."
Luke smiled at me. "Don't worry. Don't panic. I'm not going to fire you."
I looked at him shock. "You aren't?"
He shook his head as he turned the car to the left. "No, of course not. I've seen your records from school and you are going to be a great asset to the company."
"Moreover, I already did a background check on you." Luke said.
And my mouth dropped open.
He laughed at me. "Don't look at me like that."
"So you basically already know everything about me." I said.
He tilted his head. "Not exactly. I just know you were a straight A one student -Lily had already told me that- and that you got pregnant along the line and so you had to drop out. I also know that you were rejected at every university you applied for due to bad grades."
"My only question is how you dropped form an A one student to a complete F in your Exams." He asked me.
"Apparently, my mind was not well, straight enough for me to write the exams." I said.
He nodded. "All makes sense now."
"So where is the father now? The father of your child?" He asked.
I looked out through the window. "He doesn't matter anymore."
"Well, I'm sorry for that. I'm glad you told me the truth about you from the start. If you had lied to me, then I wouldn't have given you the job." He said.
I thanked God inside. Thank the heavens that I had followed my instincts.
"Thank you so much." I said. "I wouldn't let you down."
"I really hope you wouldn't." He said.
I swallowed again. I hope I didn't.
"What happened to the previous assistant?" I asked. I had been wanting to know.
"She fell in love with him." Luke said and then he turned to me. "No matter what you do. This is the one rule. So listen to me, and listen to me good. Do not fall in love. Keep your emotions together and don't fall in love with him."
I nodded and then he turned back his full attention to the driving.
I was lost. What did he mean by I shouldn't fall in love? But then I kept my question to myself.
Then he drove on and we finally reached a large skyscraper.
"Welcome to your new workspace." He said. "This is Stone investments."
We got out of the car and he led me into the building. Everyone was dressed neatly and corporately I was glad that I had gotten this suit. I would have so felt out of place If I had gotten something else.
Then we got into the lift and then he led me to an office. It was packed in with different people.
"Welcome to your office. This is the head office." He told me. "I'll introduce to everyone else later."
They had they had their eyes on me and I felt shy.
I heard someone whistle. "Who is this fine shawty?"
"Ignore them." Luke told me.
Then he took me to a section of the large office and opened the door for me.
"This is your office." He said
It was a nice and cute office with plants, a desk and chair, seats for visitors to wait in and basically everything an assistants' desk was supposed to have.
Then he led me to a large door and held on the door knob.
"Ready to meet your new Boss?" He asked me.
I nodded my head. My palms were so sweaty with anxiety.
Then he opened the door and I stepped into the largest and most beautiful office I had ever bene to.
The interior designer must have done a really good job on it.
There was a man in a suit facing the glass. He was making a call. Then he ended the call and turned to face us.
It was none other than Cian Stonewell.
