CHAPTER 2

‎ ‎I woke up with a mild headache, damn I need an aspirin, as I dragged my foot to the bathroom, the memories from the previous night flashed through my mind. Oh my God, Aisha tried to blackmail Kevin and now she is dead, I was grateful that Kevin is safe but I had this feeling in my heart, I couldn't name it neither could I get rid of it. I stood before the mirror and I noticed a hickey on my neck, last night almost got steamy, but I putted a halt on it,we couldn't make out when we have a dead friend on our hands right, well speaking of Kevin, where is he, he never goes to work without waking me up or leaving a note, his early departure was out of character, well i will worry about him later and with that thought I proceeded to prepare for work. ‎ ‎ ‎I step out of the apartment with quiet confidence, the soft fabric of my tailored ivory suit fitting perfectly against my frame. The blazer sits neatly on my shoulders, structured yet feminine, while the smooth blouse beneath adds a gentle, refined touch. Every detail feels intentional—clean, polished, effortless. ‎My heels click lightly against the floor as I walk, a subtle rhythm that matches the calm control I carry within me. One hand rests casually in my pocket, while the other holds my handbag—firm, composed, like everything else about me. My hair falls in soft waves over my shoulders, framing my face in a way that feels both natural and deliberate. I unlocked my car and stepped into it, that was when it flashed through my mind, "self defense", Kevin said he was defending himself from Aisha, that means he doesn't have to hide or pretend that he knows nothing about it, oh my goodness, Kevin will like to hear this, with that newfound hope, I accelerated to work. ‎_______________________________ ‎I stepped down from the car in all my majesty, I stared at the sign "A&K interior designers" with pride, it was a routine for me, this was I and Kevin's first baby and look how much it has grown in six years. We are gonna celebrate tonight but before that I have to talk to Kevin about Aisha's death. ‎ ‎I made my way to Kevin's office on the top floor, I glanced at his secretary's desk and it was empty, I sighed and proceeded to enter the office. As I walked in, Kevin was on a phone call and he looked anxious, I wondered what could be bothering him, I coughed slightly to announce my presence to Kevin, he turned immediately and on seeing that I was the one, he dismissed the person on the other side of the call. ‎ ‎"Amira love", he opened his arms beckoning on me to give him a hug, "how are you this morning". ‎I rushed into his arms and inhale his scent and found my self relaxing involuntary, all the pent up emotions I didn't know were there were relieved, damn the effects this man has on me can be scary. ‎ ‎"You left without waking me or even leaving a message" I whined. ‎"Oh honey, I had a lot to do, paper work to catch up on and mess to clean" he answered smugly. ‎I stared up at him, that statement just doesn't sit well with me, I wanted to ask him what he meant when a knock interrupted me. he stared at the door before beckoning the person to come in and it turned out to be mark. Mark wasn’t the kind of man you noticed twice—just neatly dressed, always composed, blending into the background of the legal department like he belonged to it. But if you paid attention, really paid attention, you’d see it—the way his eyes caught things others missed, the quiet certainty in his voice when he finally spoke. ‎ ‎He didn’t try to stand out. He didn’t need to. His personalityand brilliance drew people to him and I guess that is why Kevin made him the head of the legal team. ‎ ‎"Good morning Mr Kevin, miss Amira", he nodded at me briefly before turning to face Kevin, of course the staff saw me as nothing more than a fellow colleague who is lucky enough to catch the eye of the boss, they didn't know I am also a founder and shareholder, Kevin convinced me to lay low cause he wants to protect me from the brutality of the boardroom and I love him more for it, mark was addressing Kevin now. ‎"Sir, here is the document u requested for, I have gone through it and it is perfect", he handed the documents to Kevin. ‎"Well, thank you mark, you may leave now". ‎My curiosity has already being activated, I wanted to ask what it is, chances are Kevin won't tell me, but I was willing to give it a shot. ‎"babe, what is that". ‎"It is a document", I was surprised at the answer but when I looked at his face, he was clearly teasing me. ‎"I know it is a document but what is it about". ‎He smiled sweetly at me, held me hands and placed a kiss on the both of them. ‎"Love, do u remember what we talked about joining our shares",I nodded. ‎"That is what the documents is about", I was excited but I can't forget what brought me here in the first place, so I withdraw my hands and putted on a serious outlook, Kevin sensed the change in my countenance and became worried. ‎"Honey, are you okay", he held my shoulder so I was facing him. ‎"yes I am okay, well I was checking how to help you get you out of this mess, you know, sooner than later, the cops will waltz in here interrogating us about Aisha's death". ‎"Okayyy", Kevin drawled trying to understand my point. ‎I sighed trying to gather courage, "I think you should turn yourself to the police, tell them the truth, I will get you the best defense attorney, you will be out of court in no time then you will be free". Kevin stared at me like I was joking then Kevin did something I didn't expect, he laughed, he f*****g laughed.
