After an hour of rest, Dromer entered Brondel and what he saw surprised him.
The buildings were made of brick and marble, every single building had glass windows and their corners were all carefully detailed to create the statue of an animal. Each building had its own. On one building, it was a bear, on another, it was a tri-wolf, on another, it was a hydra. It seemed that the capital city had every single animal in the world on all buildings within it.
As he walked on the main road of Brondel he found himself in front of a big two-story building with a huge disc-shaped metal piece above the heavy-looking doors. The disc had the head of a dragon engraved on it and right above the doors, there were words written on the wall that said: "Adventurers Guild - Chronicle".
'The adventurers guild, huh? I'm guessing since this is the capital, this is the headquarters of the Chronicle Guild, but, I might be wrong. I have to head inside and register as soon as possible. Can't be wasting time.'
As Dromer entered the HQ of the Chronicle Guild, every adventurer inside looked at him with curiousness.
"Who's that?"
"A newbie, that's who he is"
"Look at his equipment, does he think those pieces of cloth will protect him?"
"His weapon seems pretty powerful, no?"
"I bet he's just a kid whose dad is a noble and now is showing off his family's wealth"
As soon as Dromer heard that last remark, he let out a small percentage of his aura very briefly in hopes of making all the adventurers shut up.
The whole building went silent as Dromer let his aura out. His hopes became a reality.
"Holy shit... My legs almost gave out..."
Said one adventurer.
Dromer walked towards the receptionist and stopped at the counter.
"Hello, and welcome to the Adventurers Guild - Chronicle, how may I help you?" the receptionist said with a smile on her face.
Dromer looked at her and said:
"I'd like to register with the guild. I'm kinda hoping I could get sent out to cull some demon scum that may or may not be in the vicinity of the capital."
The receptionist looked at Dromer and said:
"Very well, but you'll have to take the test before being accepted. I must warn you, it's very hard to get into the guild, even to be accepted at the lowest rank, and demon killing jobs are only available for adventurers at rank S"
Dromer looked disappointed and asked:
"Is there a test I could undergo to be accepted at rank S?"
"As I said, before we accept you, you'll have to go through a test so we could assess your current abilities. That will determine your rank."
The receptionist said.
Dromer nodded and, with patience in his eyes, he said:
"I'm ready for the test. I have to ask... Who's the one to test newcomers like me?"
Then, he heard an elderly voice from the balcony on the second floor.
"That would be me, my friend."
The voice belonged to the guild master Vuntir himself.
Dromer looked at Vuntir and asked:
"Who might you be? My name's Dorian. I came from the north."
Vuntir replied:
"Ah, my apologies. I am the guild master, Vuntir. Pleased to make your acquaintance, Dorian."
Vuntir said Dromers' fake name as if he was mocking him, but he saw that the guild master was playing along with his charade.
"Alright, let's go then, I'm eager to show you what I got," Dromer said.
The guild master nodded and asked Dromer to follow him. They went out to the courtyard inside the territory of the guild and then Vuntir asked:
"Dromer of "The Council of Ten", what are you doing in the human realm? Isn't the heavenly realm also getting attacked?"
Dromer explained the situation to Vuntir and after a brief moment, Vuntir spoke:
"That's quite the predicament... Alright, since I have only read about your existence, and don't know how powerful you are, I'll still test you."
As Dromer was about to unleash his most powerful attack, a familiar voice rang out from behind him. It was the Emperor.
"Dromer, if you release that attack, you'll destroy Brondel. Cancel it."
Dromer complied and canceled the attack and then turned around.
"Emperor Goswald, what brings you here, wasn't your mana almost completely drained? You shouldn't be walking right now."
Goswald laughed and said:
"Thanks for your concern, my friend, but there's a reason I'm here. I can vouch for your battle prowess as thanks for saving Brondel from that demon army."
The guild master was in shock and couldn't understand how did they know each other.
"What's happening here? What demon army?"
Dromer laughed and jokingly said:
"The one that doesn't exist anymore, haha!"
Goswald told the whole story of what happened outside of Brondel to the guild master. Then, the guild master officially welcomed Dromer as "Dorian of the Sacred Sword" to the adventurers guild.
The prolonged pseudonym was made because his rank was now S.
He asked the receptionist for demon-killing quests once again.
"As of right now, there are no demon-killing quests, so, you're free to go. Come back tomorrow and then we'll see."
"Thank you, miss."
Dromer thanked the receptionist and left the adventurers guild.
As he roamed the streets of Brondel, he heard a plea for help from a nearby alley.
Dromer ran in the direction of the voice and saw five men holding a young woman captive.
"Hey! What the hell do you think you're f*****g doing, you pricks?! Let the woman go and I won't behead you on the spot!" Dromer yelled.
One of the five men, clearly the group leader, said:
"Who the f**k are you? You better turn around and forget what you saw here if you want to live!"
Dromer exclaimed:
"I am Dorian of the Sacred Sword! My duty is not only to kill the demons outside of Brondel but also to uphold peace within its walls! I will give you three seconds to let the woman go or I'll kill all five of you!"
The group leader laughed and sent his minions to attack Dromer.
In the blink of an eye, the heads of all four men sent to attack were rolling on the ground. The woman wasn't in the grasp of the group leader and was at a safe distance from him, unrestrained.
The group leader felt a coldness creep up his back as he felt the tip of Dromers' sword on his nape.
Dromer, with an icy coldness in his voice, said:
"I warned you, you s**t-stain... You didn't listen. Now die."
After the last word left Dromers' lips, the sword penetrated the group leader's neck, and then, Dromer moved his sword upwards, splitting his head in two.
The woman expressed her thanks and left.
Dromer resumed his stroll through the capital and right before nightfall, he found an inn. He went inside and went up to the counter.
The inn was beautifully decorated on the inside. The counter was elegant and there were paintings all over the walls of the first floor.
The innkeeper came running out of the back room and greeted the guest.
"Welcome to the "Black Cat Inn"! I'm Jessica, would you like to rent a room for the night?"
Dromer, taken aback by the innkeeper's extroverty, replied:
"Y-yes. Ahem... Yes, I'd like to rent a room for the night."
"Alright, that will be 2 silver pieces"
"Also, are there any meals available at this time of the day?"
"Yes, there are. They've already been counted in the cost for a room, so, technically, the meals are for free."
Dromer thanked Jessica and gave two silver pieces to her.
"Thank you for your patronage, sir. Your room is on the second floor, at the end of the hallway to the right."
Dromer thanked Jessica once again and went upstairs. The hallway was as plain as it could be in comparison to the first floor. The walls had some paintings, two couches, and a carpet made of sheep wool.
When Dromer entered his room, his eyes widened and his mouth stayed agape. The room was gorgeous.
It featured a king-sized bed, a huge table with three soft chairs, bookshelves, a fireplace that had golden accents, and a very soft carpet. The bed had a silk cover on it with small golden strands sewed in it. The pillows were softer than anything he had felt in the heavenly realm. The curtains were woven using very expensive metals like gold and silver. The round tables' legs were decorated with huge sapphires and rubies. There was also a door. The door leads to a bathroom that had a shower with a working showerhead and clean bath towels.
Dromer was in awe.
'I can't imagine how much it could've cost to the innkeeper... This is just crazy...'
Then, the sunset. Dromer decided to go to sleep. He undressed and went under the covers. He soon fell asleep.
He awoke in the heavenly realm, confused.
"Why the f**k am I back here?"
Then, he saw Perfentius and Revirius fighting Verdactius. He saw both of them attack Verdactius. Verdactius took the hit and was still standing.
"Perfentius and Revirius... Do you both think you can defeat me on your own?" Verdactius asked.
"No," Perfentius answered, "but with him, we can."
Then, the Thunder God Keltius appeared behind Verdactius and struck him with a full power lightning bolt to the back of the head. Verdactius' head exploded and painted the whole heavenly realm red with his blood.
Dromer, after seeing the events unfold, rushed in to attack Keltius, but then Revirius appeared before him and struck Dromer with his spear.
Then, Dromer awakened in his room at the inn, covered in cold sweat and screaming.
'Huff, huff... What the f**k was that nightmare?! Keltius wasn't even in the heavenly realm when the attack happened...'
After Dromer got out of bed, he took a cold shower, dressed, and went downstairs. He entered the eating hall, sat down, and ordered his breakfast.
After he ate, he left the inn and continued on his tour of the city. He stopped by the church, which wasn't much to look at. It was made of wood and was about to fall apart. Then, a guard came to him.
"Dorian of the Sacred Sword, your presence has been requested at the imperial palace, which happens to be the home of the Emperor and his family. Please follow me."
"Alright, let's go then." Dromer complied.
After fifteen minutes of walking through the city, Dromer and the guard arrived at the imperial palace.
The guard opened the gate and sent Dromer inside.
"Go inside the palace. There, you'll be greeted by the imperial family's guard and lead to the throne room."
"Thanks," Dromer said and went towards the palace.
As soon as he went inside, the imperial family's guard met with him and told him to follow.
As they arrived at a heavy door, the guardsman shouted:
"Dorian of the Sacred Sword has arrived at the request of the Emperor!"
Then, the doors opened and Dromer went inside the throne room. He was astonished by the size of it.
'Holy s**t, I'm surprised the support beams haven't given out yet... This is just incredible!'
As he arrived at the steps leading up to three thrones, Dromer saluted the Emperor in the only way he knew how. By kneeling on one knee and lowering his head, and his right hand on his heart. On the thrones sat the Emperor himself - Goswald, his wife, Empress Lina, and his son, Prince Mertefold.
Dromer, after a bit of silence, proclaimed:
"I have arrived as per your request, your imperial highness."
Goswald laughed and said:
"Dorian, no need for formalities with me, we fought on the same battlefield yesterday. You annihilated thirty-five thousand demons and their commander in a single strike. And you didn't even look tired! You're much more powerful than I am, so there's no need for you to call me "imperial highness", haha!"
Dromer was astonished by Goswald's honesty and replied:
"Thank you, Goswald. It's an honor to be considered your friend".
Then, the empress spoke.
"I am Lina, the wife of the Emperor. I believe we've never met before. Where are you from, Dorian?"
"I'm from the north, your highness. I'm a traveler. I passed through the forest and found Brondel. Then, I saw the army approaching the city, your highness."
Lina chuckled thanks to the "your highness" remark but didn't say anything else.
Prince Mertefold scoffed:
"Pfft. This commoner thinks he's all high and mighty just because he--"
"SILENCE, YOU IMPUDENT WELP!" the Emperor screamed at his son, "This man is at least four times more powerful than me. At the time of his attack, I could see that he was holding back. And even with that small amount of power, he managed to annihilate such a huge number of demons. YOU, my son, are the one acting high and mighty. You sit in the palace all day safe from all dangers while me and your mother are out there slaying monsters because you can't do it yourself. You should be ASHAMED of yourself!"
Dromer looked confused.
'What the hell? Goswald and Lina are the ones killing the monsters outside of the capital? It should be the job of the adventurers... Something isn't right...'
"Sorry, father," the prince said with fear in his voice.
Dromer cleared his throat and asked:
"I'm sorry, Goswald, but may I know what do you mean by you and the Empress being the ones who are killing monsters outside Brondel? Shouldn't that be the job of the adventurers?"
Goswald replied:
"Yes, it should be the job of the adventurers, but as of right now, they're accompanying the imperial army on a rally to the Kingdom of Frugr. They sent a request for aid in repelling the Demon King's army."
'Oh, I know where this is going...'
Dromer said:
"Let me guess, I have to go to the Kingdom of Frugr, annihilate the Demon King's army and come back?"
Goswald looked surprised and said:
"Well, uhhh... Ahem, yes, that's exactly what I want you to do! How did you know?"
"Well, there's no other reason you'd call me to the palace and speak about the Demon King's army, now is there?" Dromer chuckled.
"Haha, right you are! Well? Up for the task?"
"Yes!" Dromer exclaimed.
