Chapter 20

317 Words
Chapter 20 HER POV I woke up earlier than usual the next morning. For once, I didn't reach for my phone immediately. I stayed in bed for a few minutes, staring at the ceiling and thinking about everything I had to get done. The expansion. The documents. The new office space. The investors I still needed to meet. There was a lot on my plate, but strangely, I wasn't stressed. Maybe I was finally getting used to the pressure. I got up, showered, dressed, and headed downstairs. My phone started ringing while I was having breakfast. Benedicta. I answered. "Good morning." "Did you sleep?" "Yes." "Did you survive Daniel?" I laughed. "Yes, I'm still alive." "Good. Did he say anything stupid?" "No." "Really?" "Really." She went quiet for a second. "Then maybe he has learned." "Maybe." "And did you agree to see him again?" I immediately shook my head, even though she couldn't see me. "No." "Good." I smiled. "I wasn't planning to." "That's my girl." I rolled my eyes. We talked for another few minutes before ending the call. I picked up my coffee again. My mind returned to work. I had barely finished breakfast when an email notification appeared on my phone. It was from the chairman's office. Meeting confirmed — 10:00 a.m. I frowned. Another meeting? I opened the email. The message was short. The chairman wanted to review the next stage of the expansion personally. I stared at the screen for a moment. Personally. Of course. I didn't know why, but whenever I saw those words, I felt like I was about to walk into another interrogation. Still, I wasn't going to complain. This was exactly the opportunity I'd come to Aurelia for. I finished my coffee, grabbed my bag, and left the hotel. I had no idea that the meeting scheduled for ten o'clock would change more than just my business plans.
