Chapter 5

Chapter 5 — HER POV I left his office with more questions than answers. The meeting had been nothing like I expected. I had prepared myself for a difficult investor. I hadn't prepared myself for him. The chairman. I had heard his name before. Everyone had. He was the kind of man people spoke about carefully, especially when they weren't sure who might be listening. But I wasn't interested in his reputation. I was interested in the opportunity. I walked back into the waiting area and checked the time on my phone. 10:47 a.m. I had spent almost two hours inside that office. And somehow, I still didn't know whether he was interested in my proposal. That irritated me. I hated uncertainty. "Miss?" I looked up. Mr. Harrison stood a few steps away. "How did it go?" I forced a small smile. "Interesting." He laughed. "That's one way to describe it." I packed my laptop into my bag. "Does he always question everything like that?" Mr. Harrison's expression changed. "Everything?" "Every number. Every assumption. Every part of the proposal." He smiled. "That's why he's where he is." I rolled my eyes. "I can understand being thorough. But I almost thought he wanted me to withdraw the proposal." "He doesn't waste time on things he isn't interested in." That made me pause. "So he's interested?" Mr. Harrison nodded. "Very." I didn't know whether that was good news or something I should worry about. Outside the building, I took a deep breath. The meeting had been exhausting, but I couldn't deny one thing. The opportunity was bigger than I had imagined. If this worked, my company wouldn't just enter another market. It could change everything. I looked at the card Mr. Harrison had given me and smiled. I had worked too hard to get this far. I wasn't going to let an intimidating billionaire make me doubt myself. My phone rang. It was Benedicta. "How did it go?" I started walking toward my car. "I think I survived." She laughed. "That bad?" "You have no idea." "Did you get the deal?" "Not yet." "Then what happened?" I opened my car door. "I met the chairman." There was a pause. Then Benedicta screamed. "You met him?" I pulled the phone away from my ear. "Why are you shouting?" "Because that's the man you were supposed to meet?" "No. He wasn't supposed to be there." "Girl..." "What?" "Just be careful." I frowned. "Why?" "Because powerful men don't get to where they are by being ordinary." I looked back at the towering building. For some reason, I remembered the way his eyes had stayed on me during the meeting. I quickly pushed the thought away. "I can handle myself." "I know you can." I smiled. "I'll call you later." I ended the call and started the engine. I had no idea what the chairman wanted from my company. But whatever it was, I intended to find out. Because I hadn't come this far to be intimidated. I came to build an empire of my own.
