Chapter 22

Chapter 22 HER POV I arrived at the office a little after eight. There was already a pile of work waiting for me. I dropped my bag on the chair, opened my laptop, and went straight through the emails that had come in overnight. Most of them were about the expansion. Some were from potential partners. Others were from suppliers. One was from a company interested in working with mine once the Aurelia branch officially opened. That one caught my attention. I opened it and read through the proposal carefully. They were offering a decent deal, but something about the numbers didn't sit right with me. I pulled up the figures from my previous negotiations and compared them. There it was. They were trying to charge me more than they had quoted other companies. I leaned back. "Nice try." I sent the proposal to my legal team with a note asking them to review it. A knock came at the door. "Come in." Benedicta walked in. "You've been here since eight?" "Yes." She looked at my desk. "You haven't even unpacked your bag." "I've been busy." "Of course you have." She sat down. "I brought you breakfast." I looked at the paper bag in her hand. "You didn't have to." "I know. That's why I did it." I smiled and took the bag. "Thank you." "You're welcome." For a few minutes, neither of us spoke. I ate while she scrolled through her phone. Then she looked up. "So, what's the plan today?" "Work." She stared at me. "I mean your actual plan." I laughed. "I have a meeting with the chairman this afternoon. Then I need to meet with two potential suppliers." "Busy." "Very." She nodded. "At least you're doing what you came here to do." "Exactly." I closed the laptop. "That's the whole point." My phone buzzed. I checked the notification. Another message from the chairman's office. The meeting has been moved to 3:00 p.m. I frowned. Moved? I had planned around the original time. I typed a quick reply asking whether the new time was confirmed. A few seconds later, I got an answer. Yes. The chairman requested the change personally. I stared at the screen. Of course he did. I put the phone down. Benedicta noticed my expression. "What?" "Nothing." "You have that face." "What face?" "The one you make when something is annoying you." I smiled. "It's just my meeting time changed." "That's all?" "That's all." She nodded and reached for another piece of bread. I opened my laptop again. There was still plenty to do before three. And I intended to finish as much as possible before I walked into that meeting.
