CHAPTER 30 ANGELA The following afternoon, I arrived at the conference room a few minutes before the scheduled meeting. The documents were already arranged in front of me. I checked through them one last time before closing the folder. A few other executives were already seated around the table, going through their own copies of the proposal. I greeted them and took my seat. A few minutes later, Damian walked in with his secretary. "Good afternoon." "Good afternoon, sir." He took his seat at the head of the table. "Let's begin." The meeting started. I presented the revised proposal while the others followed along with their copies. Damian listened quietly. Every now and then, he asked a question. I answered each one. "Why did you choose this projection?" "Because the previous figures didn't account for the additional operating costs. I adjusted them based on the latest data." He looked at the document. "That makes sense." He turned to one of the executives. "Proceed with that." The man nodded. The meeting continued. There was nothing unusual about it. It was straightforward. Professional. Exactly how a business meeting should be. At one point, one of the executives suggested a change to one section of my proposal. I listened before responding. "I considered that, but I don't think it would work with the current structure." The man looked toward Damian. Damian looked at me. "Why?" I explained my reasoning. He listened until I finished. "Keep it the way she proposed." The executive nodded. "Alright." I continued with the presentation. By the time we reached the final section, nearly everyone had contributed something. Damian glanced at his watch. "That's enough for today." Chairs moved as everyone began gathering their documents. I closed my laptop and placed it into my bag. His secretary approached him and quietly said something. Damian checked his phone. Then he stood. "I have some governmental matters to attend to." I looked up briefly. "Alright." He turned to his secretary. "Send the remaining documents to my office." "Yes, sir." He looked at me. "I'll review the final version once it's ready." "Okay." He nodded. "Good work today, Angela." "Thank you." He left the room with his secretary. I watched them disappear down the hallway for only a second before returning my attention to my things. There was still work to do. I packed everything and stood. As I walked out of the conference room, my mind returned to the proposal. Nothing else. At least, that was what I told myself.
