Chapter Eight

891 Words
Finally the day was over I go home exhausted. I reach home ....well I can't call it a home since we just moved more like a house. it wasn't anything grand or special it was a rundown shabby one bedroom apartment that we were managing. I get to the house and collapse on the bed that sounds like it's gonna fall apart any minute. My mum comes over with a cheerful smile "so.......how was your first day in Blackwood Royal Academy, is it as grand as they say " "It was horrible, those creeps are nothing but rich snobs" She sighs "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have let you go there it's just that they offered a scholarship an-" I cut her off "it's fine, it's a good school. it's the people that aren't". She looks at me "okay fine,....so are there any cuties or hotties". Seriously, she can't be serious. My mind flashes back to the boys and their devastatingly handsome faces but there is no way in hell I'm telling her that. "well, they are okay just arrogant as hell" . We laugh about it and after a long silence she finally speaks " Ely there's something I need to tell you, um...we can't stay here the job I got needs me there ....to live there but I can't bring you along and there is no way I'm going to let you stay in this dump alone so.....I was wondering if you could live in your school, I mean there has to be like a live-in room in such a large school....is it okay with you?" I thought about it "wait what do you mean do I really have to live in school the thought about living in that place scares me and how do I get permission to live there if I want to". my mom beams at me "really dear are you really willing to live there and if you are I've already spoken to the headmaster and headmistress and they said they'd get a room refurbished for you.....are you okay with this ". To be honest I wasn't really okay with it but hey I wasn't going to stress my mom out she was trying her best and besides living in school doesn't sound like such a bad thing.well it isn't has longer know those creeps find out and with that thought I drift off to sleep thinking about how day two will go. By the time I returned to the main building, my mind was still spinning, because I remembered the words from the headmaster and head mistress about...them... I had totally forgotten about that because some part of me believe it was not real. Werewolves. Vampires. Not human. None of it felt real… and yet, it explained everything. The stares. The whispers. The fear. I barely noticed where I was going until— A loud bell rang. Not like the others. Deeper. Heavier. The entire school seemed to pause. “What now…” I muttered under my breath. “Assembly.” I turned. A random student passed by, not even looking at me. “Move unless you want to be late.” Great. Just what I needed. --- The assembly hall was massive. Larger than the cafeteria. Rows upon rows of students filled the space, divided clearly into two sides. Werewolves on one side. Vampires on the other. And the tension between them? Unmistakable. I hesitated at the entrance. Where was I even supposed to sit? “Lost already?” I stiffened. Lucian. Of course. He appeared beside me like he had been waiting. “You’re really bad at blending in,” he added with a grin. “I’m not trying to blend in,” I said quietly. “That’s your first mistake.” Before I could respond, the room suddenly fell silent. Completely. Every head turned toward the stage. I followed their gaze. And my breath caught. The Headmaster. And Valeria. Walking in together. The shift in the room was immediate. Respect. Fear. Power. No one spoke. No one moved. “They don’t do this,” Lucian murmured beside me, his tone no longer playful. “What?” I asked. “Appear together like this,” he said, eyes narrowed slightly. “Not for something small.” My stomach dropped. This wasn’t good. The Headmaster stepped forward, his presence commanding the entire hall without effort. “Students,” he began. His voice carried easily, calm but impossible to ignore. “There has been… a recent addition to this academy.” Whispers immediately broke out. I felt it. That sinking feeling in my chest. No. No, no, no— Valeria stepped forward this time. And the whispers died instantly. “Silence.” One word. That was all it took. Her gaze swept across the room slowly. Sharp. Warning. “You will listen carefully.” My heart started racing. Lucian glanced at me. Then back at the stage. And for the first time— He looked… serious. The Headmaster continued. “It is rare for us to personally introduce a student.” A pause. The tension grew. “But this case…” His eyes shifted. Locked onto me. “…is an exception.” Every head in the room turned. Toward me. My breath stopped. “Oh,” Lucian whispered softly. “This just got interesting.”
