A FRIEND INDEED
As Akane stood there, weighing her options, Emiko suddenly sprang to life, her eyes blazing with hatred and desperation. With a fierce cry, she launched herself at Akane, her sword flashing in the sunlight.
But before Emiko's blade could strike true, Kaito threw himself in front of Akane, taking the blow meant for her. Akane watched in horror as Kaito's body crumpled to the ground, his sword slipping from his grasp.
"No!" Akane screamed, rushing to Kaito's side. She cradled his head in her lap, tears streaming down her face as she begged him to stay with her.
Kaito's eyes fluttered open, and he gazed up at Akane with a weak smile. "I'm sorry," he whispered, his voice barely audible. "I should have protected you better."
Akane shook her head, her heart heavy with grief. "You did protect me," she said, her voice trembling. "You took a blow meant for me. You saved my life."
Kaito's eyes closed, and his body went limp. Akane held him close, rocking him back and forth as she mourned the loss of this brave and selfless warrior.
As she looked up, Akane saw Emiko standing over her, a look of shock and horror on her face. For a moment, Akane thought she saw a glimmer of the friend she once knew, the friend she had thought she could trust.
But then Emiko's expression hardened, and she turned to flee. Akane, still cradling Kaito's body, knew that she had to stop Emiko. She had to make her pay for her treachery.
With a fierce cry, Akane leapt to her feet, Kaito's sword still clutched in her hand. She charged after Emiko, determined to bring her to justice.
