THE AFTERMATH
Akane's world was still reeling from Emiko's betrayal. She couldn't believe that her best friend had turned against her, and she couldn't help but wonder what had driven Emiko to make such a drastic decision.
As the battle raged on, Akane had managed to gain the upper hand, despite Emiko's treachery. Lord Ryujin had been defeated, and his army was in disarray.
But just as Akane was about to deliver the final blow to Emiko, a sudden commotion broke out behind them. Akane turned to see one of Lord Ryujin's most trusted advisors, a man named Kaito, attacking Emiko from behind.
Emiko was caught off guard, and she stumbled backward as Kaito's sword sliced through the air. Akane watched in shock as Kaito turned to her and bowed deeply.
"I apologize for my lord's treachery," Kaito said, his voice dripping with sincerity. "I never agreed with his plans to betray you, Akane. And I certainly never agreed with Emiko's treachery."
Akane's mind was reeling. She couldn't believe that Kaito, one of Lord Ryujin's most trusted advisors, had turned against Emiko.
"Why?" Akane asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Kaito's eyes narrowed. "Because Emiko promised me power and wealth if I helped her betray you," he spat. "But I realize now that I was blinded by my own ambition. You, Akane, are the true leader of this village. And I will do everything in my power to help you reclaim your rightful place."
Akane was stunned. She didn't know what to make of Kaito's sudden change of heart. But as she looked into his eyes, she saw something there that gave her hope.
Maybe, just maybe, Kaito was telling the truth. Maybe he really did want to help her.
As Akane pondered Kaito's words, Emiko lay at her feet, defeated and humiliated. Akane knew that she had to make a decision about Emiko's fate.
Would she show mercy to her former friend, or would she exact revenge for Emiko's betrayal?
