24 Théâtre Bohème, Sunday 4 December 1870 Edward emerged from the gloom of the theatre to the dusk of late afternoon. The theatre and lobby had been deserted, and he surmised that either the battle was over and the siege broken or resumed, or the others had descended into hiding somewhere below. He figured that if they had to go farther below, they would have told him and Patrick.
