Chapter Seven CHERYL’S eyes flew open. The music was back. She rolled over and saw Adam lying on his side, facing her. His eyelids were shut tight. He breathed the deep, heavy breath of sleep. Cheryl sat up. Groping around on the floor, she found one of Adam’s T-shirts and slipped it over her head. Then she padded into the living room. She stood in the darkness. She had to be alert, no matter how exhausted she felt. The music throbbed through her. The beat was so infectious that she couldn’t help but swing her hips just a little bit despite her fatigue. Then it happened. Everything around her melted away. The dance club was back, but this time no one danced. Bodies sprawled out on the shiny floor. She couldn’t hear anything over the sound of the pumping disco beat. Cheryl froze with fear.
