“What of your opinion of me, Your Majesty?”

1289 Words
Queen Aimee My servant finishes the last curl in my hair and I sigh. Nerves are taking over a bit. Being in the same room as your mate and not being able to tell him, having to hide every emotion…and keep a cool facade on your face, it’s completely exhausting. I decided to sleep for a bit before Gavin’s party and now I’m late. I got up and grabbed my red wrapper. Looking over my appearance one last time. A knock sounds at the door and my mother walks in. “That’s quite the outfit, daughter.” she said with a teasing smile. “Is it too much?” I looked back at my mirror. It is a bit more skin than I would normally show, but not too much. At least not in my opinion. The swimsuit bottoms are high-waisted after all. My mother shakes her head. “No, not too much. You’re queen after all. You’re allowed a little extravagance…and if I were in your position, and I was pursuing your father, I would be even less” she said, with a wink. “Momm…ew.” She raises her hands in defense. “I’m just saying you look beautiful and, right now, your looks are the best way to draw him in. You can’t tell him that you’re mates. It would complicate everything that you have worked for. At least not for now.” I sigh, knowing that she is right. Not that it makes this any easier. “How long do you think that I’ll have to wait?” My mother gave me a half smile. “It might take years to build trust. Let alone enough trust to bring that up. We don’t even know his character yet. I know what you have heard, but we need to get to know him ourselves. That still needs to be discovered.” “Do you not trust the fates?” “I do trust the fates…just not their timing.” “True, then I will be strong and wait. What do I do in the meantime?” “Become his friend. That would be the best part.” “This outfit doesn’t exactly scream friends…”I say as I gesture to my outfit. My mother laughs, “Maybe not, but it will get his attention and you can guide the relationship from there, daughter.” Just then, a knock sounded at the door. Jane pocks her head inside. “My Lady, are you ready?” asks Jane. “Yes…mother are you coming?” I asked as I headed towards the door. “No dear, I’ve already been there. Just heading to the kitchen for a few adjustments.” I nodded and Jane and I headed towards the spring room. “Your outfit is very memorable,” says Jane as we walk. “Good memorable?” I ask, knowing that Jane would let me know if this is too far or too much for a queen. “Very good. If this were a more public party, you would be setting new trends. Like always,” says Jane as we got to the double doors. I take a deep breath as I was announced and walked through the double doors. Although part of me wants to run up to King Drustan, I purposely ignore him and turn to a group of women that are more towards the front of the room. They all give me a full bow, and I nod my head. I can feel King Drustan’s gaze burning into me, but I ignore it still. “Ladies, thank you so much for coming. Are you enjoying yourself so far?’ One of the younger vampire women steps forward. I believe that her name is Mary. “Yes, your majesty. I was so happy to receive your invite.” “Of course, I appreciate all of you coming out in this weather.” I look outside now, and the rain has slowed down some, but not much. I headed towards a group of couples in the corner and take a small peak at King Drustan. He is back speaking to my brother Godwin. With Godwin being the oldest brother , and with the most responsibility as my general, I can see them becoming friends. I head towards the corner and I hear what sounds like a rush of wind. Suddenly, a large golden dragon lands right outside of the room that we’re in. There is no barrier, or wall, and it causes the couples in the corner to run to the other side of the room. He has eyes the color of fire. I should be afraid. Dragons have burned some of my villages to the ground, but I’m not. Dragons and kings are part of each other. When a dragon king or queen is born, so is another dragon. This majestic creature is part of my mate. I’ve been reading up on dragons and they know their own mates when they meet them. They have no way of communicating to their master, but he will know what I am. I know that he won’t harm me. He puts part of his head in the building right next to me, eyeing me with curiosity. I hear my guards start to move and I stop them with a hand signal. All of the sounds around me stop as I reach out and run my hand over the scales on his nose. The dragon signs a puff of smoke into the room and closes his eyes. Obviously, enjoying the attention. I hear some coughs in the room, but I don’t look up. I’m completely in awe of this majestic creature. My mate might not like me. Or might even hate me still, but at least his dragon recognizes me for who I am. “…what are you?…the Royal Dragon doesn’t usually let anyone touch him. Let alone treat him like a dog ”, asks Castellan, the King's third in command. As he watches from across the spring. “ Dragons are an older species than we are. They see through people…and apparently, my dragon trusts her. Enough to show it publicly.” Says King Drustan. I smiled to myself, knowing the true answer. That the dragon knows that I am his master’s mate. I’m secretly glad that humans and dragon masters are rarely paired with Vampires. As the concept of mates and soul mates is not commonly known or acknowledged by humans or dragon masters. The last time that a dragon master and vampire were paired by the fates was thousands of years ago. He comes up beside me and puts his hand on the side of his neck and gives him a gentle push. The Dragon gives a huff of annoyance before going back out into the rain. “You can come back anytime that you like.” I called out to the dragon as he sat not too far away from us. “With how well you feed him, he might just take you up on that offer” calls Luke from the springs and most of the room laughs with him. Easing the tension and the party soon resumes. “Are Dragons any indication of the intentions of their masters?” I ask. Even though I know the answer. “Sometimes yes. But they’re also their own separate creatures. He could probably feel my uncertainty when it came to trusting you and came to investigate. He developed his own opinion”. “What of your opinion of me, your majesty?” We were standing so close that I could see the shock of my direct question. He eyes me curiously before saying, “I’m still deciding.”
