“Aren’t you getting off?” Lucas asked, his voice breaking through Mia’s daze. She blinked, momentarily disoriented, before nodding and opening the car door. “Oh—yeah, Lucas. Thanks for today and everything,” she said, stepping out of the car. She offered a brief smile before heading straight to her apartment. Once inside, Mia dropped her bag and collapsed on the edge of her bed, her mind racing. “What the hell can I do?” she yelled, her fists clenching as she hit her forehead. “This can’t be the end. I have to marry Lucas and become the next Mrs. Rodriguez.” She stood up and began pacing the room, her mind frantically searching for a solution. Suddenly, an idea sparked, and a grin spread across her face. “Well, well,” she muttered, her laughter growing until it echoed through the room.
