Frederic Howard carried Melissa Ernest straight to the bathroom in the bedroom. "You go ahead and freshen up. I have something to take care of, but I'll be back to sleep with you soon, okay?" The last word was said with an upward inflection. After he set her down and made sure she was steady, he left.
"Mm-hmm." Melissa Ernest still remembered what Frederic Howard had said in the car. Now, hearing him say he would come back to sleep with her, she nodded shyly, not daring to look up at him.
